Default Where does this FUD come from??

I just replied to this ridiculous post in a non-AV forum I'm in...

Quote:
I'm not a fan boy of either side, sticking with Xbox 360 primarily because Xbox live has always been better than anything Sony has come up with to date, however as for the format war I believe it's ultimately going to come down to price. With Target pulling out on their Blu-Ray exclusive deal and now offering a low cost HD-DVD player, not to mention the fact that Wal-Mart has hinted at offering a $99 HD-DVD player for the holidays and Amazon already offering a $229 HD-DVD player with 8 titles consumers are gonna start talking with their wallets.
I pointed out how everything here is just blatantly false... but I gotta wonder who the hell is creating this stuff?? A $99 HD-DVD player from Walmart??

Keep vigilant!

Good for you! Question though is did you get banned? Seems like anytime someone stands up against the Red Team on that sight, they get banned.

I found it mildly amusing, and some what scary, amusing anyone would think there is a $99 HD-DVD player, and if there was it'd break down in 2 week for that kind of money :P

but also scary, if people believe this there could be some who'll buy into HD-DVD based on this mis-information, that's what scares me and upset me. I try to disprove the mis-information when I can.

It comes from sockpuppets. They have multiple identities, a whole team of people preparing "press releases" for them based on the corporate strategy etc. Most of these people aren't "real", but rather employees.

If you call them on their facts and are persistent, invariably "another" person who is the "voice of reason" chimes in agreeing with the FUD and or attacking you for your facts...and therefore undermining your legitimacy. After all who doesn't believe in "democracy" and the wisdom of the crowd

In fact it's much more refined and co-ordinated and bigger than what I'm describing...and then there is the business partners that have been incented to do so as well.

That's why so many of the arguments defy logic..because they are the propaganda of a corporation's agenda and have no interest in facts or logic..other than how they can spin and twist both to serve that agenda.

I pity anyone who makes a buying decision based on information gleaned from an Internet blog, forum, or product review. When this format stuff is over, there's gonna be a lot of pissed off people with no one to hold accountable.

Much of the FUD comes from people who think they understand the tech and the business so they repeat what they thought they heard and add a bit of their own analysis.

And of course when all of these claims turn out to be false, they won't be there to answer for it.

Yeah the $99 HD DVD player will probably be a Cyberhome player.

I'm really looking-forward to seeing the Black Friday ads this year. Personally, I wouldn't be surprised at some great, really disgustingly low-priced HD DVD and Blu-ray player specials during the first 5-6 hours of sales on the day after Thanksgiving....

I've seen the recent version of Wal-Mart's Black Friday ad, it's looking good for both sides of the "format war".

I have been hearing about cheap Chinese made HD DVD players on AVS Forum for the last 1.5 years and the rumors about them can get rather absurd at times. For instance a while back I remember a few HD DVD supporters (one of them was wnorris) actually suggesting that it only cost $50 to make a HD DVD player. As for how those kinds of rumors get started I can only imagine that one poster "hears something" and that it gets spread around by other posters who really want to believe it.

Well, you do understand that this site IS a Blu-ray site and AVS is SUPPOSEDLY a neutral site? There are HD-DVD websites and I would feel that it would be quite proper if the folks running those sites would ban posters who come in merely to disrupt.

how can it look good for both sides? 1 side must have the upper hand for it to be good

This site strongly favours Blu-ray, obviously, but with the odd exception I can honestly say I don't see as much Blu-ray FUD on here as HD-DVD Fud on AVS.

Disturbingly the HD-DVD FUD is often spread by well informed HD-DVD users, so you have to conclude they are fully aware they are creating confusion, and it's an organised campaign.

Kill both formats and allow HD light downloads to prosper.

Understandable question... By good, I meant low prices on players. If you support one format over the other, then one side must have the upper hand. If you want lower priced players (regardless of format), that's another situation. Adoption rate does increase in relation to cost, despite what some fanboys want to flame about in regard to lower-priced HD DVD players.

With drastically lower prices, there may indeed be many more adopters of High Def Movies this holiday season. I have seen a few deals at Best Buy in the last month or so (advertised, like this week for Blu-ray) that throw-in a player that ends up being free. If retailers (or their sponsors) are willing to take a profit loss for a free player here and there, who's to say they wouldn't do a disgustingly low price on players for just 5-6 hours (or "while supplies last")? From what I've seen so far, the $99 to $149 price range is not out of the question for both camps. Happy Holiday shopping and lining up for the goods! Also, there is possibly going to be a new procedure for "getting" the low-priced "Black Friday" items, in an attempt to derail some of the chaos of typical Black Friday shopping at Wal-Mart. Last year I noticed that BB and CC both issued "tickets" at the door for those in-line to get the items they wanted (first-come, first-served mentality), while other retailers have let the crazy shoppers loose to wreck havoc. WM may very-well be instituting this policy as well this year.

I don't doubt that a $99-$150 HD DVD player is coming for the holidays.

Here's my question. Will this player play next-gen hit movies from Sony, Fox and Disney?

LOL

Just to make sure I'm being clear, this price range isn't for HD DVD only during the Black Friday time frame.
