Question Plasma question

So I’ve had a Panasonic G25 THX certified plasma for almost a year now. I've obviously used it for more than 200 hours. But I’m still finding that I’m getting screen retention all the time. I have the Disney WoW disc with the pixel flipper tool, and run it twice a month for an hour a time. It seems to clean most of it up. But I guess my real issue here is why is it always retaining images. It retains my Telus optik tv box menus (i never have the menu on screen for longer than 30 seconds), it retains video game huds, it retains full screen letter boxes... it seems like anything that’s on the screen for longer than 10 seconds it retains a bit of that image. Quite honestly it's driving me insane, I find it inconvenient to have to run the pixel flipper as much as I do. its a waist of time I could be using to watch a movie. So my question is this, is there something I can do to fix this issue?

I'm very sorry your experiencing such issues with your panel. In my experience, I have found that some panels have more of an issue with image retention than others. My Samsung 50C7000 plasma from 2010 had very bad and very noticeable image retention issues. I am actually quite surprised that I was able to put up with it for so long without it bugging me as much as it would now.

The only hope of eliminating traces of image retention is performing a proper break-in process, in which you have already done, as you have stated. I have been notified that the 2010 Panny plasmas suffer from a greater amount of image retention than the 2011 Panny plasmas do. My VT30, after undergoing a straight 6 day 150 hour break in process has absolutely no image retention to see or speak of.

I would say the only discernible options that you have as of this point are to either "deal with it", contact Panasonic and let them know that your viewing experience with your G25 is unacceptable and you want a replacement panel or even demand a GT30, or sell your current panel and perhaps buy a 2011 GT30 or wait for the 2012 Panny's to roll out and pull the trigger on one of them.

I really think that you would be much happier with a 2011 Panasonic than your 2010 model, as there are far less issues with the 2011 Panasonic displays: Lesser image retention, better black performance that stays stable and does not rise over time, and the absence of floating blacks and/or fluctuating brightness.

I hope you get your issue resolved.

Thats kinda what I feared... So my next question would be, about how much do you think I could sell the Plasma for? I was thinking $850 - 800? maybe more? hopefully not less.

Honestly now that we are in 2012 and the VT50, GT50, and ST50's are on the way, it makes your TV that much less valuable. If I were you and in your position, I would put it up on Craigslist for $600, $700 at the most.

You could certainly try. I wouldn't sell for more than 800 though, after that point it would be kind of a rip off. Lol

"Break-in" Process will NOT help prevent Burn-in or IR.

I do agree just sell it and get a new 2011 ST,GT or VT Plasma. I have never done the Break-in process and I have never had an issue with IR or Burn-in.

Just hit or miss with the panel you get. Some like you said are better then others.

sorry to hear about your TV

We have the 46" G25 and don't experience any significant IR. We sit 5 feet away from the TV. I've left movies paused for up to 5 minutes and not see IR. The few times I have seen IR is when I pause letterboxed movies for more than 5 minutes. Even then, the only IR I see is a faint image of the pause icon on the bottom left corner (i use a PS3).

We've had the TV since November 2010 and it has been good since day 1. I watch channels with tickers on the bottom and watch hockey and football for hours with the score and station emblems on all the time.

yes, even i wish to know it,And do you always watch all the programs in thx mode.If so switch to custom mode and reduce contrast, sharpness, brightness & color to an extent where you eyes does not strain...
Use it like that for a week and see for any changes.I think this should be the reason for I.R.i.e your present settings should have been somewhere closer to dynamic mode,so once you reduce the settings it should solve your problem.
In my case i did get mild I.R during cold start.Once warmed up i did not seen any ir.And i did not break my tv using colour slides ! Now its almost 8 months old and my tv works daily for 6 to 8 hours at a stretch. And i do not get any I.R.

My custom settings are

contrast 64
brightness 6
sharpness 8
colour 33

picture mode : vivid

colour temp : normal

My tv is panasonic 50 inches,V20series(2D model).

love,
kris.

From what I have read online, vivid is probably the worst setting to have it on. I would suggest setting it to custom or normal, your color setting looks about right, your contrast could be right, but ur brightness is way too low. Obviously each tv is different, but I'm surprised you can see anything out of the tv. My brightness is around 57 or 58, and let alone that's as low as it should. My contrast is about 81 or 82. Like I said though, every tv is different. Color temp is to your preference, but seems fine to me

Always list for a couple hundred more than you think you could get, and field offers.

The brightness is probably that low to combat the Vivid setting, lol.
