Default WOW Walmart!

last time I went to Walmart they have the Blu-ray's and HD-DVD's put in a small location now they have a Blu-ray setup where 3/4 sides are blu-ray and one is HD-DVD, I was so impressed I talked to one of the sales people about this and he had told me, that Walmart won't be carrying HD-DVD soon, he is an HD-DVD supporter, he said they wanted to support one side then proceeded to say it was weird. if this is true it'd be another victory for Blu-ray anyone else hear this?

Good news for your neck of the woods. But probably just another anecdotal report of a particular store mgr's decision.

Cool

I can only chime in and report someone told me BJ's is blu-ray exclusive. When I was there Satuday, I only saw BD and players. Looks like Walmart is playing "me too".

They are the retailers. They have enough trouble finding new DVD shelf space. You think they want to transition to TWO new formats? They sell the players and movies. They know the real numbers, and not the inflated ones Sony or Toshiba might report. They have those DVD bins for a reason.

Not everyone has a local BB, or CC, nor are they inclined to order it.
It kind of sucks for HD DVD because now they don't have a fighting chance.

Vonscoot originally posted on a Wal-Mart Blu endcap setup for October. He also said that nothing was planned for HD-DVD.

I'll believe Wal-Mart is going Blu-ray exclusive if Transformers HD-DVD does NOT show up in more than 50% of their stores next week.

I was in Walmart on Tuesday and noticed they had the Sony player for about $488 but no sign of an HD DVD player. I was a little excited to see a BR promo running on some of their tvs as well. They still don't have much in the way of software but at least seem to be carrying the new titles on both formats.

My local Walmart has a crap selection, although they do have more blu than hd-dvd. About 10 titles on blu and 2 or 3 titles on HD-DVD (300 and knocked up was all I saw at a glance).

I wish they would get more in stock considering walmart is the best offline pricing.

That ain't gonna happen, Friend, as much as I wish it would happen. That will be one that everyone and their whole family will be looking for. It'll be much like 300...at Wal-Mart they had them scattered around everywhere in hi-def (both formats in case HD DUD people are watching, it was not just Blu, so don't give me that the HD DUD version didn't get out like Blu). So, I'll believe this when the last shipment comes into Wal-Mart and all the DUDs go on sale to get rid of them...or they sell them to Scotts for their new toilet paper line.

Usually huge mega retailers do extensive research before buying millions and millions of units of whatever... looks like Wal-Mart is not being fooled by FUD.

This is excellent news

According to this post, it doesn't seem likely:

While this may not be so great for BB, I can tell you all that Wal-Mart may soon be a better choice for HDM starting next week. On Oct 15/16 (depending on fixture arrival) most WM's in the country will now have an entire endcap dedicated to HDM, replacing the "Best Sellers" CD endcap. It will have approximately 35 BD's and 21 HD-DVD titles on it, updating weekly to accomodate new releases.
Guess we'll find out soon.

You may be correct. My Wal-Mart has not received any new HD-DVDs since We Are Marshall came out. However, they have received 3-4 new BD each week. This past week, they had Surf's Up and Reign Over Me included on their BIG DISPLAYS in front of the check out lines. On the left side of the Surf's Up Display they had the DVD with gift, on the right side they had the regular DVD. Right in the middle of the display was 30 copies of Sur's Up BD!!! It was a beautil site. The Reign Over Me display was very similar. Blu-ray was in the middle...

Hi all, newbie here. I currently only have 3 titles so far but the other day I was at a Fry's electronics, they had both the Blu-Ray and HD titles. The blu ray rack was twice the size of the HD rack. The 10 or so minutes I was there pawing over the blu-rays, not one person looked at the HD section, while it was hard to get close to the blu-ray titles due to the people trying to get a peek. That spoke volumes to me on who is going to win the battle. I also saw an exclusive blu-ray rack at Circuit City but did not see one for HD, It could have been there but I did not see it. Go Blu Ray!
