Default Sony Vaio Blu-Ray Resolution not 1080p?

I finally figured out how to display my Blu-Ray movie ("300") on my Mits 1080p tv using my Sony Vaio VGNFZ285U (it must be in single-display mode with HDTV as primary monitor, otherwise HDCP thinks you're trying to make a copy and shuts down the player). Now I have a new problem: the movie is clearly not displaying at 1080p resolution...looks like standard 480p to me. I have checked to make sure that the laptop is set to display at native resolution (1900x1080) and the HDTV monitor is indicating a 1080p source. The image is good, but is grainy and details are obscured...clearly not even as good as a 1080i source. I've read that HDCP may "force" screen resolution to 480p if there's a compliance issue, could this be the problem? Or is the movie "300" shot to look this way for some reason? Thanks as always for the help...
