Lightbulb I want some thoughts from the format neutral members.

Firstly, this is not a way to draw out the format neutral members into the open to be slaughtered. I think you guys know me enough to know I am not trolling. I still say you neutral guys are better than the reds who decide to just bad mouth blu-ray as an alternative.

Now, I realize you guys are neutral because you simply want HDM (hi def media) and probably consider red is still better than DVD. I know you probably didn't want to wait for it to come on blu, etc.

So I have two questions. When the movie format is neutral, like Warner, do you lean toward BD, or it doesn't matter.

Second, have you considered what will happen some day in the not so distant future? HD DVD will very well be the "dead" format. Some day that HD DVD player is going to break, and you may not have the repair option, nor be able to find a good used one on ebay.

Unlike DVD which will always be playable on BD players, have you considered the fact of one day having dozens of movies and nothing to play them on? I have a friend with one such broken laserdisc player. Now it just sits there.

Any insights welcome.

"BAN THE TROLL!"

There, I already used the joke so now noone can use it.

Good questions. I started out as an HD DVD supported (pretty avid) and then went Purple and now favor Blu-Ray. It became clear to me around early March of last year that HD DVD's survival depended on Universal (releasing tons of exclusive titles) and Toshiba (no other CE's are really making HD DVD players).

As soon as I bought my BD player and realized how great the PQ/AQ was, I started to buy almost every neutral (at the time Paramount and Warner) release on BD (unless I could find the HD DVD much cheaper or it had better audio specs). I am a combo hater (have had multiple issues with combos) so I avoid buying Warner day and date releases on HD DVD at all costs.

After Paramount went HD DVD exclusive, I found myself buying more HD DVD's with confidence, but it also appeared that Warner was going to stay neutral. I am convinced that Warner will go exclusive sometime in the next 3-4 months (possibly less). My gut tells me they are leaning Blu, but I am just not sure. I plan on buying all Warner releases on Blu-Ray unless we get some major news that points to them going HD DVD soon. I still plan on buying select titles on HD DVD that I really want (Bourne3, etc), but am going to put buying more catalog titles on hold unless HD DVD has a BOGO sale or something equivalent.

I am not too worried about my HD DVD player dying. Even if HD DVD went under, I don't think it would be too hard to buy another player for cheap until I eventually replaced the majority of my HD DVD titles (of course, I only have about 30 HD DVD titles so far).

Exactly!

It's not the OP I'm worried about, it's many of the remaining 10000 members of this site.

I enjoy having an intelligent conversation with both sides which is an impossible endeavor when you see replies like:

Excellent question Tron, and that is precisely why we won't buy any HD DVD player besides the fact that our whole system is Pioneer Elite and the Toshiba just looks like a cheap piece of crap. There is also the question of another piece of equipment in our furniture.

I started with HD DVD because a best buy worker sold my dumb*** on the whole talk about porn (no I am not into porn but go ahead and joke)

I should've done my own research.

I bougth HD DVD and tried to support HD DVD, but given all that is, e.g. studio support, sales, PS3 not going anywhere soon... I bought Blu

So, I had a Blu and a HD DVD player and I was neutral at that time... see my initial posts...

Now I have sold my HD DVD player and buy only Blu.

Regarding the original post, I have held on to 4 of my HD DVD's and have 5 free on the way. After Christmas I may look for an open item HD DVD player with the UPC still on the box for under $130... in this event I may repurchase a red player to play my (by that time) 9 HD DVD's, anticipating another 5-7 free movies. I'd own a piece of history too.... this is assuming HD DVD fails to hold on to Warner or fails to survive a viable life for whatever other reason.
EBay prices would plummet so I could do even better than sub $130 and perhaps even more than 5-7 more free movies...

By the way, the difference between myself and J6P may be amount of disposable income... not that I have that much but that I could afford both formats...

I'm sure you realize we were both joking. I personally have no problem with anyone being purple. It doesn't cost ME anything. Besides, life without humor is pretty damn boring.

I do hope so but try being in a neutral persons shoes for a day or two here.

You can see by my post count in just two days, I had plenty to talk about.

I am format neutral. I just refuse to buy any HD-DVD's!
Honestly though, I was format neutral before I adopted either format. Around January is when I made my choice (blu obviously ) and it was based on unbiased facts and my own research through forums and word of mouth. After I drew my conclusion, I was confident in my choice, and I haven't been disappointed thus far! Only a few exceptions to that rule were Paramount's jumping ship and them releasing TF. Those two things were devistating blows to my morale, but I stood strong and will anxiously await them to come back so I can get TF on BD!!!

It's really unfortunate and no joke at all.... a lot of people are basing their decision on this very thing. Misinformation is a hard thing to kill and some myths just won't die. All we can do is correct each individual person on the facts, where they take it from there is up to them.
