Default A Mere Comparison

Hi all,
I am confused a lil, ninjanki said (CLICK HERE) :
"...the 80GB model, they have already dropped one of the PS2 processors(EE, emotion engine) inside the PS3, and replaced it with software emulation. This new 40GB system drops the second processor, the GS(graphics synthesizer)..."

It apperantly means that 60GB is actually the FULL OPTION console and the others are lacking some, hence modified. Right? (not talking about the ability of 80GB to play PS2 games via emulation, but the number of hardware components).

The 60 gig has about 95-98% backwards compatibility, while the 80 gig (which uses software instead of hardware) plays about 80-90% of past generation games. The 40 gig I believe does not play PS2 games but will play PS1 games.

Thanks a lot.
Can you tell me where can I buy 60G PS3? I mean as 80G and 40G are becoming more popular and mostly the eshops are offering these rather than the 60G or 20G!
Can you quote some retailers who are still offering brand new 60G PS3 (with all accessories)?

If you are willing to order online, in the US www.walmart.com has them. Just search for PS3 then go to the offer of a free Blu-ray remote and one free game with each 60GB model, for $499.82. I know the Frys near me in Renton, WA has some also. And a local Fred Meyer had one or more for $20 off and a free remote control.

I wasn't aware of the difference between 60 and 80 gigs so that good to know cause we been debating getting a ps3 as a gaming system.

Bestbuy.com also has them.

just so you know, if you for any reason bought a 60gb from europe for instance. the 60gb is like our 80gb, its missing part of the ps2 and therefore will only play around 90% of games.

the us' 60gb is the best option for ps2 bc. i'd say your best bet would probably be ebay

This isn't exactly the right answer. PS2 games are region-locked DVDs, so if you live in Europe for example, that US PS3 isn't going to do you much good if all of your PS2 games are region locked for Europe since it can't read the discs.

If you imported all of your PS2 titles from the USA though, then it would make sense.

EDIT: This only applies to PS2 games. PS1 and PS3 games are all region-free.

I have both a 40GB and a 60GB and have noticed no difference. but thats probably because I am so immersed in game playing!
