Default Laser Disc - What Hardware To Buy?

I am picking up a couple LD's for nostalgic reasons and I certainly can not have LD's without an LD player now can I! I did a search on Ebay and I see a MASSIVE amount of Pioneers as pretty much the ONLY LD player available.

Is that because they are good and durable? Or is there something else I am missing? Next thing, any particular model I need to stay AWAY from and any model that I should be looking at?

Please keep in mind that this will be used probably ONCE and then will stay in storage. I just want it to show my kids how media has progressed.

Thanks for any help from the "mature audiences" out there - my nice way of saying - OLD FARTS!

Kris

Pioneer makes very good players. I have an early model and it still works perfectly.

Ebay is a good place to find cheap movies.

Thanks to anyone and all

Default pioneer elite cld99

pioneer elite laser disc players were probably among the best. look for model cld99. that is the model i have and it has worked great for over 12 years. the sides are beautiful rosewood (i wish they still offered that). this model retailed for $2500.00 usd but you can find them on ebay for under $400.00. remember if you want to have dolby digital (ac3) 5.1 surround, you will also need to get a ac3 demodulator which you can also source on ebay.

Thanks for that info - there is only one on ebay and it is insanely beyond my spending range. They want 800 dollars for it. I can get 2 NEW ps3's for that price

There are just so many models, I have no idea which ones are which.

god! i might just sell mine at that price! try any of the ELITE models, they were pioneers highest quality and would likely give you the most reliable service. and just a side note. i still feel most of my laser disc's sound better then my sddvds.

Pioneer was pretty much it towards the end so that's why. Also, they are pretty good, though mine started to have problems when the head was switching from side A to B.
