Default Watching videos on the PS3

Is it possible to, for example, download an episode of house in HD on my computer and then watch it on my TV through my PS3?

If so, can someone provide me instructions on how to watch HD videos downloaded from my computer on my PS3. Do I save the file and then have to transfer it to my PS3, or could I use a CD-R or DVD-R to save the file, then the PS3 reads that file?

Also, if it is possible, does the picture quality match that of the an HD trailer downloaded from the PS store?

Would it play it off of a DVD-R or CD-R, or would it have to be on the hard drive? If it will play from a DVD-R/CD-R, does it need to be in a specific folder or can it just be on the disc?

I think so but I haven't tested it myself. It's much easier and quicker to copy across using USB flash memory, memory stick, compact flash, secure digital or external USB harddisk.

If you don't put the video inside a folder called 'VIDEO' in the root of your storage media (e.g. E:/VIDEO/house.mp4) you'll have to highlight the icon of the storage on the XMB, press triangle and choose 'Display All'. Then you can navigate folders on the storage just like you would on PC.

The video must be in the right container (MPEG, MP4) with the proper header to be playable. 1080i MPEG-2 (TS converts) with DD 5.1 plays well for me. There are TS files out there that are actually H.264 encodes (European source) so it has to be changed to MP4. I don't know how to do that just yet.

I found clips here and there. And they ARE clips - music videos and live performances. TV episodes I guess you can find them via torrent sites - Google them yourself. It's quite easy.

Default ripping to ps3

I saw advertised a program/disk that could be purchased to rip dvds to a ps3. I was wondering if by using this or other such programs would this make it possible to watch my dvds on a psp or other mobile video players? Also is there a way to rip my BDs to a ps3 for viewing on a psp?

I downloaded a program called TVersity that will re-encode divx movies (and most other formats) on the fly, so you can leave them on your PC if you have a wireless network. It works great so far.

downloaded/torrent tv episodes are most likely divx (.avi) which can't be played yet on PS3.

For other videos that can play on PS3 (MP4, AVC, MPEG) your best bet would be dvd(-rwor+rw) or get yourself a little 2gb+ flash drive.

I've used TVersity for ages now, and it's a great app. Assuming the new PS3 DivX codec is all we hope it will be (i.e. it will play AVI files), then this program won't be necessary, but in the meantime I use it almost every day to view DivX/Xvid encoded TV shows.

+1

TVersity works well, although it does not empty its buffer on the computer hard drive after it's finished with the playback.
