**NEW TITLE ANNOUNCE**

Happy Friday the 13th! We couldn't let one of our favorite days go by without announcing a couple of titles so here's the first of two today: The 1992 virtual-reality film THE LAWNMOWER MAN will be heading to Blu-ray as a "Collector's Edition" sometime this Summer. No other details to report at this time.

I'm guessing it will not include the director's cut.

I used to watch The Lawnmower Man all of the time back in the 1990s.

This movie is so...so...

Who am I kidding? Of course, I'll be buying this Blu-ray.

So they release collectors editions of 70% awful movies and charge $20+

I own several Scream releases, but their quality (good taste) control is low.

No one (okay a few of you) would give these titles a second look if it was MGM releasing them.

At first I assumed this meant the door had been possibly been open to the New Line/ WB catalog. They clarified this on Facebook, I guess this film had independent producers and WB/New Line had let the home video rights lapse. I haven’t seen this in years, I’d buy it if it has the director’s cut and some good behind the scenes features. A look at the state of the art CG/Virtual Reality of the time and the Legal battle with Stephen King would be interesting.

Shite movie but the special features could be enticing. I hope they get into details on how this was conceived and why it has absolutely nothing to do with the actual short story.

I found this to be a very interesting misfire... haven't seen it in ages so I'll be glad to pick up a copy when released...

Ha! I rewatched both Lawnmower Man movies recently and just thought to myself these movies are ripe for the Shout Factory or Scream Factory treatment. Terrible movies, but few interesting ideas and "so bad they're good" scenes. I was also always intrigued by the old-school CGI. I will probably pick this up day one, and I'll be interested to see what extras they have.

Would have hoped for a double feature with the second movie, but then it'd hardly be worth it. Second movie's one of the worst ever--I'd only want it for the lulz and the SFX.

Never purchased on home video before because it was either a choice of Director's Cut in pan-and-scan or theatrical-only in the proper aspect ratio, so here's a chance to finally get it right! I have no doubt Shout will hit it out of the park!

Someone asked about the director's cut:

What's the story with the director's cut? Is it just deleted scenes reinserted, or is it a whole new experience that makes the movie better?

It's unrated and has over a half-hour of extra footage.

I went looking for the details for you and stumbled upon the knowledge that it was actually released on DVD in Germany.

Details on the differences:

Apparently I saw the director's cut at some point when I was a kid, because I definitely remember the long sequence with the chimp (almost nine extra minutes right there).

Not really. It just makes it longer.

I'll buy this regardless, but blind-buyers ought to know this low-budget film is terrible -- and often terribly acted, especially by Jeff Fahey, who's awful -- and time has likely only made it even worse (especially those early CGI FX, which were never top-tier to begin with).

But it's still kind of fun, especially on an unintentional trash level. People often forget how many times Brosnan slummed inbetween Remington Steele and the Bond series being reactivated.

I saw this a lot on cable in the 90s. It's a decent B movie sci-fi/horror flick.

Hell yeah. It's half-awful but half-great and right up my alley. Day one purchase.

I'm in for this one! I actually enjoyed the first one. Definitely not a "good" movie, but I liked it. I asked for this way back.
