Default Blu-ray 3D looking picture functionality

Hey all, and I know I may be beating a dead horse when I ask my question, sorry for my ignorance.

I have been in search of that 3D, live-looking feel of Blu-ray that I constantly see in Circuit City or Best Buy, At first I was nieve in thinking it was just 1080p, then I found out that TVs look much better when it is 24p capable, now I finally have narrowed it down to being the 120Hz frame rate. So my real question now is, am I right in saying that the reason all of those movies in CC are playing in that sort of quality is due to the fact that the TV they play on is 120Hz motion-whatever? I love the look of the movie when its 3Dish and is so technologically enhanced to my standards.

I started 2 weeks ago with a 42" Panasonic Plasma, top of the line; then a few days ago I returned it for a 40" Sony Bravia LCD, and finally have found the one for me, 40" Samsung LCD outputting 120Hz frame rate. Once I saw Blu-ray, I was hooked! Again, thanks for any help and barring with my ignorance on the subject.

Third times a charm!!

I've heard people mention that in regards to the 120hz sets as well but I guess I don't understand that (i.e. why being smoother motion-wise would make it look more 3D). Although, maybe it is some setting that just comes on the 120hz version of the sets? Anyway, I'm interested in your question also since I keep seeing people mention them (120hz TVs) having a more 3D'ish picture.

So the TV that I noticed the picture looking like it was 3D or like you were there on the set is the Samsung 71 series HDTV's (usually the 120hz setting is on "High"). Is the 4071 the one you bought? I ended up buying the 5271. I really like the tv and enjoy showing it off.

I am actually going to purchase the 4071 tonight, as I bought the Sony 40V3000 the other day. I kept asking about the "live-looking" picture and they all thought I was nuts. CC has the 4071 listed online at $1999, but in-store it is $1599, have to jump on that deal. I thought Panasonic would of had this technology, but haven't seen it.

That was it! The 120Hz is definitely the 3D effect I had been looking for. I hooked up my new Samsung LN T4071F and played with the video settings and kazaam it turned into the picture I had been longing for. This very cold/rainy weekend will be a lot of me and the new TV/Blu-ray.

Is it true that those specs are only for LCD's? What should I look for in a plasma display that will display that 3D, live feel that the OP described?

It looks like they are coming out later this year with a few, and the already existing ones are ridiculous in price. I really wanted a plasma as well with this technology, but just could not find one.

the samlnt4071f appears to looks 3d and even causes the picture to look as if it were cgi because of its auto motion 120htz. if you turn the auto motion on high you will really notice it. it at times looks fake but other people love the look of that set when they first see it. the sony xbr4 is better at processing 120htz or what sony calls motion flow. when it is turned on to high or standard, the picture quality looks much better and more film like not cgi. but when i show people the lnt4071f they fall in love. (i work at CC).

I'm loving the 4071 because of exactly what you just explained. The one thing I did not know Auto Motion would do so well on was my DirecTV HD, it is pretty close, but of course their boxes only do 720p, still, the picture is great. I love going to CC, so many sales and really know what to show you.

First Time poster, so don't boot me off for no reason
I have the Samsung 5271 52inch 1080p LCD TV. Just got it. The salesperson at BB told me it had a 120hz rate on it. I can't seem to find out online. SO, is this dude speaking the truth? Either way, this TV is fantastic! I have Upscaling enabled on my PS3 and my standard DVD's look unbelievable.

Thanks for your info...

Did you look in the "Menu > Picture" area? I had to look for that feature, and you usually have to either turn it on when you first boot up the TV. The Picture menu has many features that can be turned and and actually need to be adjusted as by default they are turned off. Just keep scrolling down until you see the menu with it, its actually the second to last option in the Picture preferences.

Thanks for the info. I had no idea you had to turn it on. So what setting is it on by default, 60hz? If it is on 60hz I can only imagine how it looks on 120hz...

Trust me my friend, Night and Day difference! But sort of like the CC guy said above, is mainly eye candy than anything, but I love it!

Thanks! I've just been watching the tv with the standard settings, which seems great to me. I feel spoiled watching it! Would you recommend staying on standard or tweaking it once I switch over to 120hz?

Sorry for all the questions, but, I'd like to do it right than wing it and not use the set to it's full potential...

Find some one who has your TV & has had it calibrated get the settings from them & go from there as to how you like it Thats the best you can do with out spending 100's$ on calibration . My Panny's give me that 3D feel quite often

Who is your provider? I have DirecTV HD and it looks pretty nice as well. Mainly, if you have HD programming from whoever, I would play with the 120Hz settings and see what looks better. I set a lot of the turned off stuff to on and it looks so nice. The format I changed to "Just scan" vs 16:9, but like I said, there are a few there that are not turned on.

Don't worry about the questions, we are most likely in the same boat as I just got into this stuff and am slowly getting more comfortable explaining and knowing in general.

I have Comcast HD. It looks great, it puts out at 1080i on the HD channels. I don't believe they have 1080p capability yet.

only europen companies have outputer 1080p video

also the 3d look of hd is due becuase the camera focuses on the front ground image ei a person standing (then the back ground looks less detailed) also edge enchansments make the 3d effect greater
