Default HD Press release a joke!

"The just-issued press release recaps a "breakthrough year" for HD DVD, reporting almost one million dedicated HD DVD players sold through to consumers, and software sales for the format that grew at nearly twice the rate of Blu-ray during the five week holiday selling period."

Made me laugh when I read this.

Here is the link to the article I assume the thread starter is referring to. http://www.reuters.com/article/press...08+PRN20080107

BE WARNED, it is very long, boring, and just like anything you could read by the usual suspects on those other forums.
More attach rate jargon, sales #'s that don't count the PS3, and no mention of future plans.
Nothing new here.

gotta love spin. Blu keeps selling at a high, steady rate, but DUD sells a few more for a few weeks compared to their normal lackluster sales and suddenly a press release comes out saying how much their still lackluster sales have grown. I'd hate to have that job having to spin everything that's going on into good news for DUD.

The Tosh spokesperson says "we've been declared dead before"... well maybe its time they gave up trying to gain it back! The fact is trying to keep it alive it only going to hurt Blu-ray, and not help HD DVD. If HD DVD has been declared dead before, and Blu-ray never has, perhaps HD DVD needs to see the light and give up!

Did you notice that they did not mention much about the future? It almost sounds to me like an eulogy.

guys i wouldn't give this article much relevance at all.

i think this was written about a week ago and was going to just be a PR followup for the next morning after the HD DVD conference.

everything in that PR could have been said a week ago.

and i really don't believe that HD DVDs biggest mouth piece Ken Graffeo wouldn't have anything to say about the WB switch, I think he said these words well before he was aware about WB.

Reminds me of Robocop 3, where a news lady is reading a story saying that Robocop was killing nuns and she stops and walks off saying " Does anybody believe this crap"? I would love to have seen the Hd-dvd babe do the same thing.

I believe this is one many reasons why HD DVD lost. Toshiba believed their own hype.
"We are number 1!" Was their battle cry. When in fact they were not... and from when the Playstation 3 was released they quickly became number 2. And they never realized that.
As they cried out that they were number one they never understood why more Blu-ray Disc were being sold. Why more BD were being rented.
Hey retailer we are number one why don't you go HD DVD? they would ask. retailer would say because we out rent and sell HD DVD 2:1 with Blu-ray.
Toshiba never could wrap there head around this; until it was to late:
If a box plays DVD's it is a DVD player no matter what it's primary/secondary functions are.
My Playstation 3 does several things. One of them is it plays standard and high definition Digital Versatile Disc (DVD). Therefore I own a DVD player.
It doesn't matter if it is a PS3 or a XBox 360 HD DVD peripheral. If it plays a high definition disc it is a high definition disc player.
Toshiba didn't even count (and therefore did not even support) there own players. They did not count (until the end) computers with and XBox HD DVD add-ons.
If they won't even count their own players how do expect to win?
