Default Target Blu-rays With VHS Artwork - Jaws, The Breakfast Club, Backdraft, etc.

Has anyone else noticed that Target has the following films listed:

E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial (https://www.target.com/p/e-t-the-ext...y/-/A-54127881)

Fletch (https://www.target.com/p/fletch-vhs-...y/-/A-54139805)

Sixteen Candles (https://www.target.com/p/sixteen-can...y/-/A-54139751)

The Breakfast Club (https://www.target.com/p/the-breakfa...y/-/A-54128015)

Fast Times at Ridgemont High (https://www.target.com/p/fast-times-...y/-/A-54139824)

Jaws (https://www.target.com/p/jaws-vhs-ar...y/-/A-54139728)

Backdraft (https://www.target.com/p/backdraft-v...y/-/A-54139821)

Slap Shot (https://www.target.com/p/slap-shot-v...y/-/A-54139768)

The stock photos indicate these are going to come in VHS style packaging similar to what the JB Hi-Fiís Rewind Series has used, which has included a few of these same films.

The street date on all these listings was October 30, yet they are all still listed as 'out of stock'. Does anyone have any info or insight as to when these will be available? I know from the Stranger Things thread that we have some Target employees that frequent here.

The Rewind Series has actually had three different batches of releases over the past year, totaling 34 releases to date. Target could have something similar in the works.

I looked for Slap Shot VHS on their site but it said they were no longer available... But I would love to own most of these for sure.

Yeah but the listed release date was just a few weeks ago. They wouldn't have yanked them so close to the release date would they? I'm thinking the release date was just delayed and they haven't updated their pages with the new date.

I think you're right. I subscribed to a few of them to notify me when they become available.

This trend says a lot about who studios think is still buying discs.

The problem with VHS packaging is they take up too much room on the shelf.

I thought this was just a faux VHS cover for a blu ray case and a cardboard slip to go over the case? If this is an old VHS clamshell style case, then yikes! You could fit 3 movies on blu ray in that same spot. Shelf space is tight in my house, so that would be an easy skip. I like more compact packaging than ever.

If this packaging is in the same vein as the Rewind Collection at JB Hi-Fi and VHS Range at HMV, which appear to be what these are mimicking, it’s definitely clamshell style.

I saw a Rocky one earlier today, didn’t look closely but pretty sure it was the first one. Weird because all the ones in the OP are Universal...

I just turned 40. I'm deep in the nostalgia game right now. Buying mini video game consoles even though I have the originals; buying VHS-boxed blu-rays even though I have the same movies on VHS and DVD. I'm buying vinyl of albums I've had on CD for decades...

What is wrong with me, why am I doing this???

I definitely want that Fast Times one. I'm pretty sure it's just a slipcover, but I hope these are clamshell style. I'd be happy either way though.

I put up with the overly bulky Stranger Things cases because it's the only option, but not buying into it for normal BD releases. I like my standard cases better lol

The WalMart VHS-inspired slipcovers look better, since they are actually based on the original VHS packaging for the movies where applicable. This just looks sloppy and cheesy.

Oh yeah I have. If they don't come out with a Mortal Kombat cabinet, I'm picking up the Street Fighter one to be sure!
