Two video problems with PS3

Hi everyone,

I'm sure there are simple answers to these, but I have a couple of problems playing DVD's on our new PS3:

1. Blu-ray movies flicker slightly at the bottom of the frame and have a ghostyness to the picture when a scene is panned (or, as an example, when someone is moving across the picture), and

2. SD movies have the black letterbox, but on the sides. Zooming doesn't fix the issue, so I assume it's a setting on the PS3, which I'm struggling to find.

I have an LG, 37' 720p HDTV if that's of any help.
