Hi fellow Blu-Rayers!!
I've got an Onkyo TX-SR605 AV Receiver and a 5.1 Speaker Set consisting of 2x JMlab Focal Chorus s 716 Fllor Speakers for the Front, CC 700S for the Center, 2x Chorus S 706 for the Rears and an Active SW from Yamaha. The Onkyo Manual states to connect the Back Speakers to the Surround connectors on the AV (not to the Surround Back!!). This doesn't seem logical to me. I would think that the Back Speakers need to be hooked up to the Surround Back, but this produces Errors in the Audysey Speaker Setup. In order to run the Setup correctly, I connected them to the Surround Connectors (as mentioned in the Manual). It may just be me, but it seems confusing. Furthermore the Receiver also supports Bi-Amping as do the 716er Front Speakers, so I took off the Bridges from the FL and FR and connected them to the Surround Backs on the AV (and changed the Speaker Type to "Bi-Amp"). This indeed produce an excellent Sound!! I'd kind of like to hear other Experiences regarding Bi-Amping (is it worth it or is there no difference). One last thing. I have my PS3 connected to the AV per HDMI and the AV per HDMI to my 47 inch Philips LCD TV. I'm not real sure when to have the PS3 set to Bitstream for Audio Output or to Linear PCM. I'm very curious of all of your Thoughts on this. Cheers Scooby |

2. for best quliaty always leave ps3 at linear pcm. now when u increase your speakers to 7.1 keep in mind that in linear pcm mode if the source is 5.1 the onkyo will not matrix to 7.1 and in this case u may have to switch your ps3 to bitsream. you will then get 7.1 but not at the higher quality rate of pcm. 3. go to avsforum.com and they have a lengthy thread on this receiver. 4. bi-amping benefits i think depends on the speakers you use. but see that forum and read more about it. |
