Default My PS3, 720p, and advice!!!

Been checking out the capabilities on the PS3 I plugged in recently, and I watched Temple of Doom last night, and I gotta tell you.... This was the second standard DVD I played in it, and although I thought the first movie I played in it (Big Lebowski) was a pretty good image..... the difference in Temple of Doom was NIGHT AND DAY with the up-scaling job the PS3 did!!!! MAN! The fact that it's a lucas film, has me chomping at the bit to get home and throw Star Wars in!!!!

Bravo PS3!

Here's the much anticipated results of the PQ test I spoke of before, for those wondering the benefits of Blu-Ray on a 720p set.

First off, my T.V. is only 720p, but it's only a 37" t.v.

I played The Shining and 2001 on Blu-Ray on 720p, standard DVD through the PS3, and standard DVD in my standard prog. scan DVD player with Component video (480p) and with standard RCAs.

here's the results, in order from Amazing to "wow, I used to watch this?"

1) Blu Ray Disk on Blu Ray player..... "Wow" I could say more, but there are pages of posts out there with people's first impressions...

2) Standard DVD upscaled on Blu Ray Player...... couldn't believe how much better it looked than it did on either standard DVD player. Really.... I know it may vary from movie to movie, but The Shining and 2001 exploded off the screen. I actually went back and forth to Blu-Ray to tell the difference, and although it is there, and side by side Blu-Ray would look way better, The upscaling was impressive to say the least, and for my collection, I'd say it was worth the price of the player alone.

3) Standard DVD, on prog. scan DVD with component video @ 480p.... a lot more grain. This made me thankful that the PS3 upscaled, because after watching Blu-Ray, I think it would be almost upsetting to watch standard DVDs on my standard player again.

4) Standard DVD with the cheapest RCA cables I could find. A little more grain than the Component Video cables, Glad I got the Component cables a few years ago, but the this test was short lived, as I was anxious to get back to watching Blu-Ray!!!!
