Same here, I was wondering when Disney was going to get off their arses and release this.

And I STRONGLY SUGGEST to people who aren't DMC vets -- do not sign up at DMC UNTIL you at least get the promo codes from teh thread in the Deals thread. Better -- check the first 2 posts and read at least a few pages at teh end.

It cuts the price of your enrollments and required items by almost half when you do it the best way and not accept the Default deal with 5 full priced required items instead of 2 (or max 3)

I still have no idea how the hell the DMC works. I was specifically waiting on these two releases to jump in and pull the trigger on titles I've been waiting years for.

Since 5 is evidently the magic number for a DMC membership, I really just want to get in, grab these and be out. But you're saying that there are certain promotions where I don't necessarily have to hit 5, and/or the movies are cheaper?

Such a bizarre way for people to get their hands on physical properties.

No idea on the actual mechanics of how it works for a customer (see below or spend some time on the Deals thread) or no idea of how it actually works for Disney?

No way to get in and out with less than 8 total, but you can get in/out paying for 3 (or 2.5) or those 8. They basically force you to take 5 free items and 1 cheap in order to join to get the 2 you might want if you absolutely only want those 2 at release and nothing else at all. You can also potentially join, do everything you need, and quit in less than 2 weeks (or less)
[Show spoiler]

95% of the basic information is in the first 2 posts of the DMC Deals thread/FAQ. It's worked for 20 years and people on this forum overwhelmingly think it's a great deal as long as you understand the rules upfront. It's an extremely cheap efficient way to build a collection, but it's not something everybody wants to deal with. It works best for those people who want at least 8 Disney Movies cheap, it doesn't really work that well if you only want 1 or 2 specific titles and have no need or patience for dealing with extra items (sell, gift, share) though virtually everyone who needs 3 exclusives would have a hard time paying less.

Disney obviously likes having a built in fanbase and certainly aren't losing money on it so it must be working. They obviously think it's more profitable to do it this way that give 1/2-3/4 of the price of every item to Alliance/BB/Amazon/Distributors, multiple warehouses, etc etc.

Boiled Down
Disney essentially gives you 5 items for $1 to start with -- you can select from a list of 300 BD and 1000 DVDs (no 3D, no 4K, no SW, and most new releases are excluded from the initial picks for 60-90 days). For that deal, you promise/are required to buy 3 items from their whole catalog of 2500 items with regular Disney price 19.95 or higher over 24 months (or 24 hrs) - there is a cheap option to drop that to 2 full priced items. With the current promo codes they also send you a nice little toddler blanket and lifetime Free Shipping.

the bit fancier details
At time of signup, they give you an option to pick an extra Bonus title (essentially any of the same signup eligible titles) for $11.95 which counts as one of those Required items so only 2 more to buy. Essentially it's a Buy 2, get one at half price and 5 items free.

There is no monthly or annual fee, there's no 2 year requirement to stay enrolled, there's no minimum number of items you have to buy to stay enrolled outside of those 2 (or 3) purchases.

After the original 6 items for 12.95+tax, you can buy 2 more items on day 1 of your enrollment and as soon as they're delivered you can cancel and say adios immediately. 8 Disney for as little as $53 -- quite frankly for the prices many pay on Ebay for these exclusives, they could sign-up, get the 2 items they want and throw the other 6 items away and still break-even

The Feature Title is the sticking point to so many people. Disney has 15 cycles per year where they pick an item they want you to buy. If you don't decline it within the 28 days time frame, they charge you and send it to your mailbox. It's not a club that sends it first and then you have to return it if you don't want it. You always have a full 28 days to decide - you can mail their card back old school, you can decline on their automated phone line, or you can decline online (literally less than a minute to sign in and click the decline button). If you still forget to decline, you still have a time frame to return it for refund. You do not have the option to turn off this feature after you meet your requirement no matter how long you are a member. .

Yeah, that's not gonna happen. These DMC exclusives rarely port of over extras, much less ones that weren't even included on the DVD. Besides, Disney isn't portrayed in the best light in the commentary, so no chance the Mouse would allow that to be included.

It would be even better if they included the cut freak show scenes.

Are there any discounts for first time members?

I've never wanted to do it but this is a favorite from my childhood and I'll join just to get this.

The CINEFANTASTIQUE article on SOMETHING WICKED is practically required reading for how a production goes astray when departments -- especially department heads -- are fighting each other instead of working together. The Cinefex piece has some good stuff too, but that CFQ, along with their big issue on ALTERED STATES, are really good examples of warts-and-all journalism, very good reporting.

And yeah, Disney is most definitely not portrayed in the best light in the CFQ ... not by a long shot, but it seems like a very honest accounting, and how this project ranked way below TRON and EPCOT in terms of company prioritizing.

I really like the movie in spite of its flaws and failings, though I think the wonderful library confrontation could have been done practically with flash paper pages and still conveyed a magical quality. Still, what they wound up with is better than just plain pages being ripped out.

I had been so bummed when I heard Christopher Lee lost the Dark role, but after I saw how wonderfully the part was played, had no complaints.

^ That CFQ issue, like many, is a must own if you’re a fan of the film. It contains a shot from the abandoned CGI train sequence. Only place I’ve ever seen it.

I’d love to see Jack Clayton’s complete original cut with Georges Delerue’s score, as it still exists, but that won’t happen
