Default Disappointed in Life of Brian

I finally bought Life of Brian after hearing alot of hype on this forum how it blows The Holy Grail out of the water. My opinion is this movie isn't even in the same league as the Holy Grail. What's your opinion?

well, I haven't seen it, but I totally would have bought the holy grail if that one came out instead.

If the blu-ray version of Holy Grail comes out I'll be snagging that up as well... even though I'm sure the picture quality will be as terrible as on DVD, sucks when the film stock is crap!!

I like "Life Of Brian" but imho "The Holy Grail" blows "Brian" out of the water. "Brian" looks and sounds great so I can't wait to see "The Holy Grail"

Can't compare Life of Brian with The Holy Grail, no way. All Life of Brian ever manged to do for me is put me to sleep. I am serious about that...tried watching it (DVD) like four times and never made it past 1/2 hour.

I like holy grail the best, then life of brian followed last by the meaning of life.
I am well pleased with life of brian and was surprised at how good it looked.
long story short I am pleased to have this in my collection.

LOL, I fell asleep about 1/2 way through for about a half hour so now I'll have to rewatch and make sure I never missed anything good.

Blasphemer!! (Throws a rock or two)

I liked The Holy Grail, but I think The Life of Brian was better. To each his own, I guess... *Shrug*

I was disappointed in LoB too. Holy Grail is better IMO.

Holy Grail is better, but Life of Brian is also great.

I recently read an interview with John Cleese regarding this, and he commented that in the US, Holy Grail is seen as the best Python film while in Britian, Life of Brian is.

Comparing the two, Life of Brian is a more complete story, while Grail simply stops. I love Python, so I love them both for different reasons.

Different kind of humor. Life of Brian is far more satirical and tongue in cheek, while Holy Grail is "silly" comedy.

I like both about equally. My favorite MP titles is Meaning of Life, but I know a lot of people who didn't like it. Still, nothing can live up to the Monty Python humor!

I agree with most of your opinions in the above post. But, 'Life Of Brian' is the best Monty Python film because it actually has substance. The humour goes well beyond the standard North American "kick him in the junk" style of humour; which is the most powerful ingredient for North American audiences who want to laugh. In the western civilization people hate thinking about politics or religion or social issues as sources to be ridiculed and examined for what they really are. Those topics are taken WAY TOO seriously on "this side of the pond." Myself, I appreciate and prefer the intellectual aspect of comedy as it will continue to remain funny beyond the first viewing. That's where the differed opinions arise from... different cultural mentalities.

With that in mind, 'Holy Grail' is funny if I watch it once every 5 years. 'Life Of Brian' cracks me up if I watch it 3 times a month. And 'Meaning Of Life' fits somewhere in between the other two.

The Holy Grail is an overall funnier film, but LoB is still brilliant. I think you may need to watch it a few times before you get all of it.
