Default BD30 and 7.1 PCM problems?

I have a setup where 7.1 PCM should play but now does not. I am using HDMI cables. 7.1 PCM did work when I watched 3.10 to Yuma.

I purchased WAR the other day and it only gave me 2.1 downsampled.

I then put 3.10 to Yuma back in and that's downsampling too.

I repeat - 7.1 PCM was working. I am looking confirmations of the same issue. Please don't post suggesting I check my setup. The only change was inserting WAR and 7.1 PCM no longer works.

Does anyone else have this issue? I'm off to approach Panasonic customer support. Any similar stories would be helpful.

If you refuse to even double check anything, you have taken out the first step in basic troubleshooting.

If it were me, I would double check the following:
1) setup/audio/PCM down conversion should be "off".
2) run a speaker test just to make sure you hear sound in all speakers.

Again, if you don't want to check these things, then good luck with Panny tech support.
They will probably make you go through these and a bunch more.

i have this blu ray player and had somewhat of the same problem. when i chose the uncompressed 7.1 pcm option on 3:10 to yuma, war, and good luck chuck. i only got 5.1 sound. my friend bought is player over and evething worked fine. so i just returned my unit and my new player works fine. i have no idea why my old player did that. on your setup meny you should have everyting set to bitstream, secondary audio off, pcm downsampling off, dynamic compression off. if youknow someone else that has this player see if they will bring it over.

Just so you know - I did double check the setup. I was asking not to be told to do the initial troubleshooting steps when I had already taken those steps. I was following all the laws of troubleshooting. I just didn't want to waste anyones time repeating stuff that had already been done.

And what's more I've now identified the cause.

It's not the player. The one thing that changed (when I sat down and thought about it) was that I had tried to remap an input on the AVR.

I opted to simply clear the memory on the AVR and everything is back to normal.

Thanks for the input. It turns out that there wasn't a problem with the BD player (or my setup). On one hand I love the memory clear feature of the AVR. On the other hand, Sony has done a really poor job of writing instructions on how to remap input assignments.

Maybe I'm just slow, but why would you turn your audio settings to bitstream when you want to utilize the PCM track? I don't have the equipment for lossless/uncompressed audio yet so I am genuinely curious.

For native PCM tracks, you get PCM whether you select PCM or bitstream.

*grins*

Not in the - Check your HDMI cables - sense of the term.

I was trying to setup PC audio into the Amp and I managed to change the HDMI input assignment (hence my comment on lack of clear instructions on how to reassign inputs)

And remember, 7.1 was working originally. It had been setup correctly. In fact, it was this that led me to look to something other than the blu ray setup and focus on the AVR.

OK I hear you.
I realize now that you wasn't trying to be a "hard a$$" after all.
I apologize if my tone offended in any way.

Good thing is you figured out the issue and can now help others with a similar setup.

Indeed. When dealing with remapping inputs into an AVR be warned that you may impact your audio experience. If 7.1 was working and suddenly stopped, AND you tried to remap inputs look there.

And no, I wasn't offended. I probably could have worded my OP a little better too
