Now that it's official I'm happy to post that my 3D conversion for The Brain That Wouldn't Die is available beginning today!

For anyone that hasn't seen it, it's an Oscar caliber film with amazing special effects, award winning writing and top tier acting.

Ok no, it's not any of those things. It's definitely one of those so-bad-its-good type of films and actually has a pretty big fan base. It was also featured on MST3K so you know it's good

I believe Andrew has posted the trailer for folks that wanna see what to expect from the 3D.

I was frankly surprised to see this title relegated to the Plan D tier, because it’s such a famous cult film, with a pretty big fan base as you said. I would think it would sell pretty well in a deluxe edition. At any rate, I completely understand putting out no-frills releases in order to save time and money and get the releases out faster, but I gotta be honest, I’m still a bit sad that not quite as much TLC will go into them regarding the conversion, the most important part. By all means, lose the slip and other extras if you must, I totally get that, but for me, what sets you guys apart IS that extra TLC. Yes, I realize Plan D conversions will still be much better than one-click auto conversions, but…well, I’m sure you know what I mean. Just a thought. And yes, I’ll be buying THE BRAIN THAT WOULDN’T DIE. And if you ever decide to release an upgraded version, I’ll double-dip.

I'm having trouble with the website, it seems like it has been set up to NOT allow all four Plan D titles to be purchased together.

Unfortunately the print on demand supplier doesn't support mixing products from different owners. As such anything produced by Andrew, Alex or myself will reside under our independent storefronts. The complexity of putting everything under one account and tracking and paying out individual artists is just not something we have the bandwidth for. Not saying it can't happen some day but for now this is the best option we have to get these out and make them available for people.

Speaking solely for myself I've chosen to adjust the price for The Brain That Wouldn't Die to help offset the shipping. I don't want to knock other people's work but there are individuals selling fairly poorly converted 3D films on anaglyph DVD that are only 3 or 4 bucks cheaper than my proper 3D Blu-Ray. I hope that despite not having combined storefronts that people will still find this to be a decent value.

This actually was a contender to be one of my Eyepop-3D releases. I started work on a different title which likely won't even hit Kickstarter this year. So best case this might have made it out Q3 or Q4 next year.

Then Andrew came up with Plan D so I decided to take a break from the Eyepop title and spend some time on this because I really wanted to have at least one Plan D title ready and I wanted something that was still pretty special.

I’m still a bit sad that not quite as much TLC will go into them regarding the conversion, the most important part.

There's still a good bit of TLC in there and I've got the rotoscoped depth maps to prove it

Overpriced crap shouldn't really be used as an indicator for what to charge.

I am seeing the same price for The Brain That Wouldn't Die as for The Devil's Hand, should it be less?

With the overall quality of The Brain That Wouldn't Die and the extensive amount of work to convert it to 3D I consider it a bit of a premium level product within the Plan D line. I believe Andrew even mentioned in the Plan D announcement video that he felt it was close to Eyepop-3D quality. Realistically I would have preferred to price this higher because I think it's worth it, but again without any combined shipping options on my title I've tried to help offset that.

I think you'll love the quality here - it's right up there in my book. I think with our experience and techniques we've developed over the last couple of years you'll probably find that Plan-D titles are generally going to be pretty close to EYEPOP conversions but without the hoohah surrounding them.

Of course, like on the free disc and the experimental film compilation when you are dealing with films that are 100+ years old it's going to show signs of it's age.

I can guarantee you though none of us would share these if we weren't 100% proud on them. If I wouldn't personally buy it (and enjoy it) then I wouldn't put it out. Although I do appreciate I'm perhaps a bit unusual in my taste!

Alex, Andrew, Phil, I've just placed my order for all (though not the free extra since I already have that Stooges short in 3D via the old Legend disc ).

Again, I'm thrilled that you're focused on accelerated production here; the more (and the quicker) the merrier.

And I'm also thrilled to see the extras disc includes trailers for Frankenstein's Daughter and (especially) Phantom Planet, which I'm eager to see in a Real 3D upconvert -- and I'm hoping you get your hands on as many other PD sci-fi's as you can; so many of these in particular are screaming for 3D treatment and I'm confident they'll sell well.

As for quality concerns, I direct any skeptics to the SBS trailers the EyePop team has posted.

It's pretty tricky to answer that. The Devil's Hand source wasn't as good as Brain's but as I said in my intro I couldn't resist as it was crying out to have specific shots pop out.

I'd guess in terms of time taken to convert them Brain and Devil's Hand probably started and finished about the same time - so they've had the same amount of time put into them but the better source will obviously make a better conversion.

I can't comment on the specifics of Brain but Devil's Hand required massive amounts of roto fixes on the depth maps - I'd say almost every voodoo doll, pen, bottle & glass was missing and required manual effort to add back in. Definitely more time spent on it than was hoped/planned for at the outset.

As with our EYEPOP releases it was fixed and 3d graded on a shot by shot basis - so still a hefty amount of work for a lower profile release.

But Brain is objectively & without doubt a better conversion.

The 3D trailers look better than I was expecting for budget products, in terms of the quality of the picture. I was expecting blurry, muddy low res products but these looked sharp with good contrast, which is good to see.

For the 3D, do you have the 3D conversion computer software do most of the work in these situations, no longer manually working on each budget film?

Good presentation in that video intro of the films also, introducing them, the plan, each trailer and so on.
