im helping a friend research a HD projector as he doesnt have access to internets. So ive already done some researching for him and ive came onto the Mitsubishi HC1500 Projector.
but anyone know something better at around the same price range? preferably with wide placement possibilities. he need something that can do short throw but im just trying to find some other options for him. any helps greatly appreciated. |

- What kinda of lighting conditions will he be using it for most of the time? - check projectorcentral's throw distance calculator may help narrow the search |

Get the HC1500 my friend. I have the HC3000 which was its predecessor and all I can say is that I've been loving it for the past year and a half. They both pretty much have the same specs. If and when you do get it, make sure you chose 1080i/60 when watching Blu-rays. In that mode, you'll get the best PQ.
BTW, if you do some research online, you'll probably be able to find it for less than $850. Last edited by gvortex7; 02-24-2008 at 05:19 PM. |

Take a look at this site. They have ranked the best 1080p and 720p projectors. Mitsubishi is a good projector. Sony BRAVIA VPL-AW15 and Panasonic PT-AX200U are also good choices.

In that price range you'll be looking at 720p, 1080p is still considerably more expensive. I owned a 480p DLP projector for three years and upgraded to the Sanyo PLV-Z4. I love this projector! The Z4 is discontinued now, the current model is the Z5 which streets about $1300 at the moment.
Projector Central is a great site to check out projectors, they have tons of reviews and listings of their most recommended home theater projectors. The DLP HC1500 has great reviews, but I chose the LCD Z4 for several reasons. It has a 2.1 zoom ratio and a huge amount of lens shift. The HC1500 has 1.2 zoom and no lens shift. Lens shift makes projector placement a breeze. Without it, placement is somewhat trickier. Also, the Sanyo has a quite short throw. Good if you like a big picture and don't have a large room. To me, the best thing is the 2.1 zoom. It lets me have a Constant Height setup. I don't have the space to explain in detail, but basically: I have a 2.40 Aspect Ratio screen (2.4 times as wide as high). 2.40 AR films fill my screen, with no black bars top or bottom. 1.85 AR movies fill the screen top to bottom (that's why it's called Constant Height) with black bars on the sides, 1.37 AR films are the same, with wider bars on each side. This is how movies are shown in theaters, and this is how I like to see them at home. I think you have to have at least 1.6 zoom and some lens shift to be able to do this, and I'll never go back to a projector which can't. The Sanyo also has a three year warranty, and a spectacular picture, BTW. Just my $.02. Good luck. |

I "tested" (because it was by accident) three projectors: Epson Powerlite 1705c, Mitsubishi 1500C and BenQ MP730. I watched movies with all of them. Mitsubish is far away from the others, regarding the quality!

Yep, can't go wrong if your looking for a 720p projector if you get the Mitsubishi HC1500, they really did a great job with it(its a updated version of the hc1000) I have it, and I honestly can't see how it can get much better than this. I'm happy.

It says based on the last 300k visitor views...so these are not rankings based on preference or quality. I would prefer the Optoma HD 80 over any LCD PJ at any cost because DLP has better pop and sharpness for instance. Last edited by GTP; 02-24-2008 at 02:52 PM. |

I'd highly recommend the Sanyo Z5, or the Panny PT-AX200U. Both are listed around $1300, but I'm willing to be you can find one for cheaper. I own a Z5 after tons of research, and my friend went with the AX200U b/c he had more ambient light than me. Both are spectacular.

so it sounds like sanyo z5, and the panny PT-AX200U.
i had came across the pt-ax200u before i stumbled upon the hc1500. and yeah back when i was doing research for my own projector projectorcentral was a valuable. i also found www.projectorreviews.com to be very nice cause they have calibration tips for the optoma hd80 (and many other projectors i assume) that got me noticeably better picture. |
