This reminds me of the Sims. I have no interest in this "home" thing.

I have a noob question . . . can someone explain to me what Home does and why I should be excited? Or a link, either way.

I'm just amazed that this is gonna be free. I'd like to see xbox live try that.

Home is a virtual community.

Avatar-esque interaction with other players, and facilitates some game-matching logic in that space.

Also, to serve as a 'home' [pun-pun] for the trophies when they get implemented.

Free is an odd thing to say.

Pretty much, because it won't be 'free' literally. You'll pay for it, indirectly most likly. As Sony will use royalties from game publishes, revenue from hardware sales, etc to actually cover the cost.

It's just not directly paying for it, like you do with Live.

Ok, maybe I shouldn't have said the free part. I've just been waiting for this for a while now.

It's accurate. And when you notice where the price points are, most likly, the part of the budget it's coming out of is prolly marketing, which really doesn't affect the [interested] consumer all that much. Just a little pet peeve of mine that's developed from my job.

Folks who get upset that they're charged for 411 calls when they don't get a number, but at the same time don't want to be the ones who have to pay for everyone else's prank calls .

It's kind of free. The only cost is if you want to "pimp out" your stuff.

Still, this has to be one of the greatest things ever released on a console--even if you don't care. And the fact that it's free to a point makes it all the more amazing.

Home really looks awesome and sounds interesting...

But...

Doesn't this just promote the growing trend of people becoming socially unaware and kinda, "hermit" like? I mean, why socialize when you have Home?

Interesting none the less, especially because it's free.

As for the rumours that MS is thinking about doing something ala home... I don't see it happening... They would end up charging $39.99 for the program, then nickel and dime you for everything....

Well, it's a bit 'more' social than Live, in that there's more than just IMing each other online. But, also a bit less direct because of that.

I'm excited not because it's some virtual world like Second Life, but because it gives me a place to meet up with my gaming buddies and launch a game. Right now there is no zest to logging on and sitting around twiddling my thumbs waiting for everyone to fire up. In Home, it actually gives something material to do and I'm enthused to check it out.

It also gives you a medium to share with friends your trophies and accomplishments, game clips you recorded, and other miscellaneous media.
Developers can also create trophies and things for their games, which is one of the most exciting parts to me. If you haven't seen the trophy room, it looks kick ass and I suggest anyone remotely interested YouTube it. It's 'Matrix' style.

On top of it all, it looks really really modern and slick. And it will technically be free. There will just be integrated billboard advertising and the option to purchase things outside of the standard package if you are so inclined.

So, in essence, it's basically a bit of 2nd Life, with a bit of Live on Super Duper HGH and Steroids?

As for the awards, that sounds very cool.

Since I'm not too knowledgeable on PSN, is there something akin to the achievements that MS has for Live? As in points, icons, etc?

As far as I know, there is. You will earn trophies and have a display and everything.

For me, one of the things that killed my Assassin's Creed experience on the PS3 was the lack of achievements. There was no reason to kill all the templars or collect all the flags. A big part of the game disappeared.
