I understand Blu-Ray will support:
1920x1080 1280x720 720x576/480 SD Will movies actually be released as 1920x1080? Remind me what rez the best home LCD screens are at these days. I'm being told the best rez current home video projectors are able to handle is 1280x720. (Or at least this seems to be becoming a standard.) If one of these projectors were purchased now, do you think it would be "natively" compatible (ie: no transcoding or rez manipulation) with Blu-ray when it comes out in a year or so? And bonus question: Anybody know what rez theatres will be projecting video at? (Surely it must be more than 1920 x 1080.) Thanks, RBG |

Thinking this through a bit, I take it the higher rez is interlaced while the 1280x720 is progressive. Did I read somewhere that Blu-ray supported 1920x1080P?
And while I'm at it... Anyone know what the outputs of a BD player will be? RBG |

Blu ray discs that are sold in stores will be encoded at 1920X 1080p which is so called true hd . With so much space and ability why settle for less

There were numerous lcd tvs at this years CES that supported 1080p. As for Blu-Ray, I would assume that movies will be encoded 1080p24, but sport and tv programming may be 1080i (50/60hz). Though just speculation.

The new DLP chips are out from Ti that are 1920x1080, so hopefully this years better DLP projectors will not only be native 1080p, but will accept standard BD/HD-DVD formats, or be upgradable to allow maximum resolution. |
