Default Help - Have PS3, Need Receiver

Any help with recommendations for a new receiver that fits my situation would be greatly appreciated.

I am no audiophile but do have a PS3 & watch hi-def TV through cable provider. I'm looking to replace an 8 yr old pioneer receiver I've never been happy with. I have a room pre-wired for a 5.1 surround system. I'm not really looking for anything more than 5.1 but would like something that can keep up with whatever the best audio the PS3 can put out. I'd be perfectly happy buying a refurbished Onkyo. My existing speakers are smallish (Bose-sized) Sony that I will likely replace in the distant future.

Any advice on a good Onkyo that doesn't have to be latest and greatest or any other receivers PS3 owners are happy with?

Thanks in advance.

You sound like you'll be happy with any receiver with HDMI in/out, and you want Onkyo, so just get the 605.

Sounds like the Onkyo 605 or 705 is your winner. I havr the 805 and am thoroughly impressed with the Onkyo caliber of quality.

can anyone here tell me the difference between the Onkyo 705 and 805? Is it just more watts per channel or something more?

Lots of the difference is actually the quality of the internal components. The 805 is a very high quality build. You won't see that written in the specs.

TXS both for quick replys. I really appreciate the level of knowledge the more senior members in these forums have.

Do the older Onkyo models SR304/505 have older audio processing technology that couldn't neccesarily keep up with the PS3?

I did see the 304 doesn't have HDMI inputs but the 505 does have HDMI pass through.
