Default Anyone ever bought a gray-market Denon?

I really want an AVR-4308ci as my next reciver but really don't want to pay $2500. There are a lot of "reputable" sellers (according to Nextag, Bizrate, eBay, etc.) out there listing gray market Denon 4308's at $1600-1700.

Anyone ever have the guts to try this? I know Denon is funny about warranty issues but what about firmware updates, etc.?

Give 6th Ave Electronics a try. I know a couple of friends who bought Denon receivers from them and got good deals. Give them a call (online price is the regular price) and see if you can get it at a good price. BTW, they are authorized dealers.

No denon but I bought my onkyo from ebay (so no warranty). The amount of money I saved made the risk worth it. No problems yet.

For $2000 you can get a very nice receiver and amp setup which will always outperform just a receiver. My opinion is that you should get something cheaper (even the 3808 if you want to go Denon but Onkyo and Yamaha are great to) and get a nice amp.

Pre-pro setup > standalone receiver.

Just a thought for you. Good luck dude!

Beware : Denon don't support Gray Market item for FW Update.... It might not work , it might and if they are a failure of some sort they won't exchange it (since there's no warranty)

Obviously Denon won't support it if it goes bad, though I do believe they'll fix it for a price. I'd be leary of spending $2000 on a gray market Denon. Most high end electronics strangely tend to have more service issues than lower end stuff. I guess it really depends on how much you save at first and your comfort level if it breaks.
