Default I just want to confirm my audio setup...

So, I've been reading through the various posts on the board, and here's my conclusion to what I've read. I have the Sony BDP-S300 BD player, and I have a Pioneer VSX-815 receiver. To get the best possible sound from my system, I have just hooked up my player to my receiver via the analog 5.1 connectors. Then I went to the menu on my player, and set it up for DTS HD, which looks like the best possible setting for audio output. Have I done this right for the best sound possible, or am I missing something?

Yeah, you should be good. You're not going to get the full DTS HDMA track, since neither your player nor your receiver will decode it, but you'll get the 1.5mbps core track.

With that BD player you aren't going to get the truHD or dts HD because the player doesn't decode them and doesn't bitstream them...and you aren't going to get the LPCM either...so you aren't getting any of the new audio formats...

not correct.

according to Paidgeek, the S300 can now internally decode Dolby TrueHD...at least from what ive read and heard, but have not seen anyone really confirm it...so its a maybe?

anyways,

5.1 Multichannel Analog is in Linear PCM, so yes he will hear Uncompressed PCM tracks.

did he ever say which settings on your player will allow you to do this, or which update this was added in, because the newest update simply says stuff about java.

i have yet to download the newest update since most my blu's have pcm tracks, but i can tell you alternating all the settings on my player and switching back and forth between reg dolby 5.1 and truehd 5.1 on "we are marshall" there is NO difference in the mbps my player displays on screen.

so i can say that before the newest firmware as an absolute this player doesn't decode the truehd. i really am curious about this and may trying to download the update later today.
