Default Optoma HD65 Display

Hey there. I am wondering if anyone can help me on this. I just bought a Optoma HD65 which is a 720p projector. But last night, when I was playing Resident Evil: Extinction, the display showed 1080p. Now this confused me, as it is only a 720p projector, although I have my PS3 set at 1080. Am I getting 1080p on my Optoma ? Confused

It's native resolution is 720, but it is capable of 1080p/60.. congrats!

Cheers for the link. Wow, you learn something everyday. This projector cost me just short of £500. Excellent picture, and now this. Must say excellent buy, and replacement lamps are just over £100, so must be a recommendation.

I can't believe I helped a Man U fan...We're only 1 point in the clear now!
What size screen are you displaying? I'm thinking about going the projector route in the near future and optoma's keep popping up as an affordable solution.

hey there. Yes only one point. I am thinking that those injuries maybe costing you now, but you never know, you may hold out. Currently got 16:9 Ratio 78'' 1.72X1.00m. Hoping to better this in the next couple of months though.

No, it can take the signal.. that's all There's still only 1280x720 pixel on screen, but the machine can process the resolution and do a convertion..

So technically it's kinda upscaling ?

Nope, the opposite. it's downscaling. It can't upsale higher than its native resolution of 1280x720p so it wil take the 1920x1080p and downscale to 720p

x2 At the end of the day, you will only ever get out the native resolution of a projector with any resolution not = to it, scaled to it.

Wow, another person with a 1080p tv, but has a 720p (my case XGA) projector, I guess we should of waited for the projectors instead of the TV, huh .

As for the 1080p signal, they are right, it downscales the 1080p signal to fit the 720p pixels of the projector. So it is the processing of the projector if it looks better in 1080p or it's native 720p (Most cases it is 720pthat is Better on a 720p display)

Default Bottom portion of the display is just black

Hello, I am new here and just posting here, even though it may not be completely related to this thread. I did a search and convinced that nobody else seem to have reported this particular problem I am facing with my HD65

I have had this projector for nearly 2 years and not a problem so far. I have it connected to my Set Top Box and WDTV live via the Sony STR home theater receiver (pass through only). Never had a problem so far.

I got busy and haven't used the projector for few months. The only thing I ever did during this period was just cleaning up the set-up, wiring etc. But since then I have a problem with the display. Both my WDTV and STB are set up to send 16:9 display. But when either of those sources are on, about 1/4th of the bottom portion is cut-off. For e.g, the subtitle portion is gone.

I tried few set-up changes and this is what I observed:
1. When there is no source on (the blue screen) the display is perfectly 16:9
2. When I put the project in 4:3 mode, the display seem alright. I.e. the display covers the entire screen height (of course, with the appropriate letterboxes)

Does this ring a bell to anyone? Can anyone tell me what the issue might be and what else I could try out? Thanks in advance.
