Default HDMI advice needed

Hi everyone. Hope this is in the right place.

I've just bought a Sony BD player and connected it to my projector (BenQ PE7800) with an HDMI>DVI cable (the proj doesn't have an HDMI input).

I'm frustrated that I'm unable to get any signal through this connector.

I've hooked the 5.1 audio outs to my Pioneer receiver and am receiving sound through them, so the player is working. I'm also able to view SD through the single RCA video cable, and playback is fine.

I am unable to get the setup menus to display onscreen however, either through RCA video or HDMI>DVI.

Could this be an HDCP issue with my projector which I bought about 2 years ago meaning I have to upgrade it? or is the issue with the player?

I suspect that the equipment is working fine and it is just my connections that are at fault. Please help someone!
