Default I'm so annoyed by the logo on HD network channels

It seems like the logo is getting bigger and bigger and it's not in the corner of the screen anymore. It's almost like 6 inches away from the corner and plus they put an ad of their new shows in there too.
That is a big distraction when trying to watch movies. I got so distracted by that I just shut it off and watch BD instead.

Default ditto...

The bigger the TV, the bigger the bug. I think the logos are misplaced because some Networks are still catering to the TVs with the 4:3 ratio, hence the logo being further out from the edge. I noticed this on all of the HD sports channels that all of their data and logos stay towards the middle and there are several inches of unused space on the sides.

I did some research on this and found that the network owners don't really care and consider the top 30 % and bottom 30 % of the screen as advertising space. Don't expect any changes for the viewer. Expect bigger and more obtrusive ads.

Another reason to watch more Blu and less TV.

I can handle bugs, but when they take up the bottom 30% of the screen during a show to advertise another show, I get really annoyed.

The even more strange situation is when a news reporter is carefully describing the displayed surveilance video when all the action is fully covered up by the station's bug and ticker display. Weird.

I believe it will get worse in the age of DVRs. People more and more watch recorded content and skip over commercials. This is only the beginning.

what do you expect from free cotent?.Don't know if you mean OTA, but tv is still otherwise cheap and the only way that is is because you have to watch through ads/logos.BD is clutter-free, but not free, so its reallly a matter of choice.

The bugs are there to remind people what channel they are on. I can click a button my remote if I forget.

and the advertising at the bottom of the screen during a show occurs on several of the cable channel. I know USA does that a lot. I'm already paying the cable company to get the channel and there are commercials between acts of the show and now they have to put ads during the show as well. It's getting to be too much.

I already watch a lot of TV shows on DVD (wait and watch the whole season at once) and this kind of stuff will only drive me that way even more.

Weather Warnings and Watches are the worst. They shrink the picture down so you don't miss anything, but they take up about 1/3rd of the screen to show the weather map and then their scroll along the bottom. Inevitably it will happen during a season finale or something. Although what is worse is when they totally interrupt the program.

It's called 'title safe'. Back in the day of CRT's, tv's had a lot of overscan, sometimes up to 10% which means 10% of the image all the way around is blocked from view. In the digital age, some tv's are giving us a true 1:1 pixel and shows everything. But since not everyone has that type of tv they must still cater to those with a lot of overscan. Now with shows that simulcast in widescreen and 4x3 they also have position all the graphics so that the 4x3 people can see it, so it looks really funny for us widescreeners. Local news in HD is the worst.

What's really funny is that broadcasters used to use this safe zone to hide info, or wouldn't bother creating graphics that go all the way to the edge of the original image, so you will see odd graphics at the very edge, or you can see the black and white flickering line that contains the closed captioning information.

These logos have gotten out of hand - PERIOD. The PBS kids channel had THREE logos going at one time. The largest was in the upper left hand corner and hindered a great deal of the picture!

Now, I don't have kids, nor do I watch the PBS kids channel, but I wrote them via e-mail to complain. I did mention that those logo's could cause long term damage to plasmas. They seemed to have listened because not too long after that e-mail that monster logo was gone. PBS does respond to e-mail.

Tried writing a couple of the local stations like FOX, etc. in hopes of similar results. Those who responded pretty much kept their position with some sort of self justification BS. I have noticed that NBC does lighten the logo a lot more during movies. You almost can't tell it is there. Everyone else is just annoying!

Marketers are just evil people! You wouldn't even find margin space in magazines and books if they had their way. Remember, these are the same kinds of people who put ads inside matchbook covers. Do yourself a favor and use the last match to burn the ad! Anyone remember how early web users hated banner ads? Now we just accept them.

I'm a graphic artist, and even I find those on screen "bugs" annoying. I've quit watching certain TV series altogether because of overly intrusive in-show ads.

FX channel was really bad about that for awhile. Some noisy promo for Rescue Me or Dirt would buzz on the screen in the middle of another TV show or movie. My knee jerk response is to change the channel. I'm sure that's not the marketing effect the "suits" desire from that spam.

The way I see it, those bugs, ads and screen-hogging tickers are just as much a distraction as some idiot tool farting around with his phone in a darkened movie theater. No one should have to tolerate that nonsense.

"Time shifting" and DVR use may pose real problems. But those broadcasting and marketing folks are getting paid quite a bit money -enough that they should be able to come up with creative solutions to get viewers to stick around during the commercial breaks.

It's already torture enough to watch a movie or TV show on some cable networks. They'll stretch a 2 hour movie into 4 1/2 hours of broadcast time with all the commercials they run. How about a 5 minute block of commercials to go with every 4 minutes of your movie!? No wonder DVRs are so popular.

I can ignore a lot of the bugs, but that kind of stuff (expecially if there is sound involved) is too much.

what happend to the non-invasive transparent white logos! I watch history HD channel a lot and with their new solid color logo, Im worried about burn-in on my plasma... Will this be a problem for plasma owners as more HD channels do this? Makes me re-think about "shoulda got an LCD".

I don't watch any HD channels with logos on the screen. I don't mind if they pop it on for a few seconds now and then (a la TCM or Discovery HD) but anything that stays on the screen is a no go for me (except sports where there's a ton of stuff on the top and bottom). Cable started out as a paid commercial-free service. Then they added commercials. Now this. Enough is enough!

The official reason for them is if you're in another town, you can still find ABC without knowing the channels

No, I don't believe it either
