When I run my speaker setup program, it says that 3 of my surround speakers polarity is reversed even though I know it's not. I have a total of 4 identical surround speakers.
The manual does say that depending on the speakers, this can happen sometimes even though the wiring is correct. It's weird though, because all my surround speakers are the same brand and model number. The sound is ok, it just bugs me that the receiver says there is something mis-wired, even though I know it's not. Just wondering how many of you guys run into this problem? |

Its possible that the speaker setup is automatically adjusting the phase of several of the speakers to complete it's auto setup. Have you gone in and checked the settings manually? You can set the speakers to be output in normal or reverse phase and perhaps you could manually turn them to normal. If you can make this adjustment, make sure it sounds good. If not, that is why the auto setup made the corrections. Hope this helps.

How do you tell if they are "Dipoles"? They are Yamaha NS-AP6500S 2-way Bass reflex.

It doesn't sound like they are dipoles. Dipoles are speakers that have pairs of drivers in the same cabinet that emit sound from opposite directions (kinda like two speaker cabinets glued back to back). The drivers are typically intentionally out of phase with each other, and the intent is to provide a diffuse, non-localized sound field.

Did you double check the wiring both at the speaker and back of the receiver? I just have to ask to start with.
If your receiver allows you to run a phase test on each speaker individually, do it. If a speaker is out of phase the test will properly identify it for you. If the test confirms the auto setup, which it probably will, try reversing the wiring for those affected speakers. Sometimes speaker terminals may get mis-wired internally. Stranger things have happened before. |
