Default Which One Should I Purchase?

OK HERE IT IS I'VE NARROWED IT DOWN TO EITHER OF THESE PLASMAS Panasonic VIERA TH-50PZ85U, OR THE Pioneer PDP-5010FD (the panny would be about $1,050 cheaper). My other option would be LCD's Sony Bravia KDL-46XBR5 or Sony Bravia KDL-52XBR4 ?

RECIEVER- Onkyo TX-NR905 7.1 Channel THX ultra2
BLU RAY- PANASONIC DMP-BD30
FS- Bohlender Graebener Radia X3's
C-Bohlender Graebener Radia X1
RS-Bohlender Graebener RadiaX3's
Infinity Sub
MONSTER HTS 3500 POWER CENTER
XBOX 360- 17 GAMES
BLU RAYS-38

In short my advice is simple:-

Dedicated Home Cinema
  • Dimmed lighting / in the dark.
  • No windows or blackout curtains used.

Go for a Plasma... better contrast, better handling of movement. Downside is that they are not as bright and the reflections will drive you wild under all but the best conditions.

Living Room Conditions.
  • Lights.
  • Windows.

Go for the LCD... contrast and handling of movement not so good. Upside... they are generally brighter and on screen reflections are MUCH reduced. The Sony 46X is an awesome LCD panel. I have an older version.

It's all a matter of personal choice really, but my rule of thumb above generally holds true.

I'd stick with Plasma IMHO. Especially if you're gonna be watching sports at all. I'm in the same boat roughly, and I'm debating over

Panasonic TH-50PZ85U

and

Samsung PN50A550

I'm waiting for some reviews to come out before I pull the trigger on one, and it's killing me, lol... each day I check a few sites to see if any reviews have been posted, and so far nothing.

Also, the THX Certified Panasonic TH-XXPZ800U are coming out soon too, and the 46" should be similar in price... Depends on what it adds if the drop from 50 to 46 will be worth the tradeoff.

I have the Pioneer PDP-5010FD, and it is SICK. Colors are great, PQ is awesome. Most would say you could never go wrong with a Pioneer Plasma. BUT, to be honest, I have heard nothing but great things with this years Panasonic Plasma's. They are supposed to be top notch. For the money, you might want to just go for the Panasonic.

Plasma... or projector (that would be a good option too for a dedicated home cinema).

Go for the Pioneer. My dad has had both at some point and the Pioneer blows the Panasonic away (comparing 42" 720p models). The Pioneers have the best contrast I've seen from a flat panel yet.

I would have the store place both Plasma TV's side by side. Hook a Blu-ray DVD up to them and watch the same movie at the same time. This is what I did when making my decision. It took the salesman a bit of work to do this, but I was getting ready to drop 4 grand on a TV, so I didn't think it was asking too much. This way you get to see both TV's in the same lighting and the same movie. Go with what looks best to you.

I have heard so many people say they should of went bigger...I say get the XBR 4...The two tvs are basically identical, same engine same processor etc. Don't waste your money on the 5 when you can get a bigger tv for the same price (I don't know the pricing). PQ I would say there is no difference...the 5 has some extra options like changing the outside color of the tv and a RS-232 input...Get the XBR 4!!!

The person mentioned 2 plasma's and 2 LCD's, so it's about plasma and LCD.

Let's try and add things to the conversation rather than antagonizing people.

If the PDP-5010FD is within your price reach, go for it.

I'd recommending looking at the TH-50PZ800 over the TH-50PZ85, as the 800 has 48Hz for 2:2 pulldown, the 85 uses 3:2.

I'm thinking about getting a 2008 Panasonic Viera TH-46PZ80U. The price looks good, and the picture looks great. Is this a wise purchase?
