Default Should I purchase a new TV?

I have been debating on purchasing a new TV for a while now. I have a Samsung LNR268W that I have had since 2005, but it only supports 1080i. I want to get the TrueHD viewing experience with 1080p. I was looking at getting a Samsung LN46A630.

Samsung 46"LCD Full HD (1080p) Television

Now, the reason I am posting is because I am always hesitant on making big purchases, and I always need a little encouragement to pull the trigger.

So, the big question, yeah or nay on the new Samsung?

I got the 46A630 and the 40A630 both with the P1500 BD player. That $1399.99 price is a great price. No regrets yet.

I'd say go for it. I just added a Samsung into our home and enjoy it. Amazon is also selling for for $1,399.99 now with free white glove delivery service.

This one looks pretty good, especially for the price!

My Sony 52" Rear Projection died yesterday
The picture got super bright and blurry. Probably the bulbs...

It's only a 1081i and no HDMI, so I am debating on going out today to get a new TV as well.

Kind of on a budget though... $1300 - $1500

Anyone who actually got this Samsung?

I went to Sears today and I purchased the LN40A65; Samsung 40 in. LCD Full HD (1080p) Television. It wasn't available in the store today, so I have to wait until Monday to pick it up. I got a nice deal too. It was $1399.99 with 42 months no financing. I got an extra 6 months free financing because I opened a Sears card.

I do have one question though. Becasue the TV is 120hz, do I need a certain type of HDMI cable? This may be a "noob" question, but I am just curious.

No need for a special HDMI cable, just get ones from someplace like monoprice.com and you're set. Surprised that you went for the LN40A650 since it's 6" smaller than the original set you wanted at the same price, especially the only major difference is an extra HDMI input and slight increase in dynamic contrast. The 650s are excellent TVs though, enjoy it!

Congrats on your purchase stahl-

I went to Sears also to pick up either LN46A630 or LN46A650.

The 630 was sold out until end of January and somehow I disliked the picture quality of the 650... probably just wasn't set right.
So I got an awesome price match deal on Sony KDL-46W4100.
Delivery will be wednesday. I also talked them into at least taking down the old 52" rear projection which ways like a ton (we live on the second floor- no elevator)! They won't recycle, so it will just be put on the side of the curb for bulk pick up. Anyone passing by my area have a look if you want spare parts!

to both of you congrats on the new tvs,

katharsis, never trust the pq in the store. you will always need to change it when you get home, ask for a remote to mess with it in the store, for every tv you are considering.

I had a 46" Sony lcd that was only 1080i and was hesitant about buying a TrueHD tv. Finally worked up the nerve to go buy 46" Sony lcd 1080p and I have had the tv for about six months. The only thing that I am disappointed about is WAITING SO LONG TO BUY THE TV!!!!!!! I say if you have the extra money to spend buy it you will not be disappointed.

I just upgraded my tv from the Olevia to a Panasonic Viera 80u. Congrats on your purchase with the Samsung, I think I'm going to return my tv and get an LCD. Too much maintenance with plasmas, I looking towards the LG 42lb5d or the Samung 540 series 46 inch. Both tvs are under 1000 here at a local store in Orlando, FL.

All plasma owners here are gonna hate me now

I've got the Samsung LN52A650, and love it. Great picture. I ordered from Amazon, and the free white glove delivery was excellent.

I just replaced my 50 inch sxrd with the new samsung 52a630 and its awesome. the sxrd looked pretty good on blu ray and 1080i but i wanted a little more. the new samsung though is unbeatable as far as quality and price.
and the 120hz has three levels and you can shut it off to standard 60hz, which is really cool.

Stahl the difference from 1080i or 720p to 1080p is marginal at BEST! You won't notice any difference at all. You probably don't even have a blu-ray player therefore you can't even see 1080p. I would definitely wait for higher resolution then pay thousand of dollars for this tv. Also the 120hz (gimmick does not work). Another wasted feature you are paying for that will resonate zero benefits for you.
