WOOHOO!! any help for curing cancer is great! I had a buddy who ran his ps3 24/7 and ran Folding while not using it. Ran it for a couple months...before it croaked. I asked him if he thought it was because of the constant running of Folding....his answer was "If it was, it doesn't bother me. Me paying $500 for a new PS3 is more than worth ALL the research that I've helped with. My $500 could have cost researchers thousands instead. I'll happily buy a new ps3."
I just like his way of thinking.. ![]() |

I'm not running folding@home today, but I'm folding proteins here at work instead... http://www.ohri.ca
Anyways it's great to see so many people excited by this project. I can attest to how much work is involved in understanding the function of a single gene or protein in a very specific cellular context, as this is essentially my thesis topic. I haven't seen anything specific come out of folding@home yet, but give or take a few years it will be interesting to see what sort of potential this project yields. For anyone that's interested in learning more about the project: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/1...ubmed_RVDocSum Last edited by Thegide; 04-08-2008 at 05:50 PM. |

Anybody take a look at the individual donor statistics for the default "ps3" id? It is number 1 by a LOOOOOOONG mile. It seems like all those ps3's in the field just steamroll through the work units, regardless of the grouping.
The ps3 client stat is over 1 PFlops!...more than all of the other clients (hardware profiles) added together. It's just amazing how far this goes, considering the ps3 userbase is only a fraction of the pc userbase, and only a fraction of that ps3 userbase is actually participating in F@H, in the first place, and ps3 has only started contributing work units since a year ago, as opposed to pc's which have been number crunching F@H for over 5 yrs. ![]() Last edited by Mr. Hanky; 04-08-2008 at 06:32 PM. |

My PS3 has been Folding@home 24/7 for the Blu-ray.com team since the beginning.

I'm sorry to say, but I have been contributing my F@H units to 2ch@ps3, team 54733.
![]() I have no ties or participation at the 2ch forums, but I figure, if there is a bandwagon to jump on, might as well pick a ps3-dedicated team that already has a good lead. That may imply a lack of allegiance to this forum, but I think the greater focus for donating my work units lies with "ps3" rather than "blu-ray". I really believe that if all ps3 F@H participants could agree to pool their efforts, the resulting team can shoot right to the top (noting the sheer domination of the "ps3" donations for all the users who don't bother to change the default "ps3" id to any particular team or unique id). You can join any ps3-centric team lower on the list, so might as well pick the one closest to the top...2ch@ps3 ftw! ![]() |

![]() I can see what you're saying, but my reasoning is that the PS3 doesn't have to prove anything like that because it already dominates the teraflops in the OS stats: http://fah-web.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/...?qtype=osstats In the end though what matters is that you're folding. |
