Default World Trade Center

I only saw this topic discussed as a deal, and I didnt want to bump a 2 year old thread.

Do you guys recommend this for $18? I saw it, from what I remember, it was great, but dont know PQ and AQ wise. The only Paramount BD I have on Blu is Italian Job, and its not that great

Movie was very good but dragged a bit towards the end.

PQ is excellent on outdoor scenes and brightly lit sequences but gets too dark when the characters are stuck deep inside the rubble.

Paramount did a very high bit rate MPEG2 encode for WTC. Compared to the HD DVD the PQ on the Blu-ray is sharper but noisier.

Can be watched once or twice.

I live in NY - on Long Island, about 60 miles east of Manhattan. When the Trade Centers went down, my life changed forever. Yes, this film is good (thanks to Michael Pena), but the entire incident is an extremely sore wound for many Americans - especially those of us who were close to ground zero. I lost a couple of friends that day. But I am blessed. Several others escaped the catastrophe. I only learned of their fate days later.

I had to drive over the Whitestone Bridge a few days after the 9/11 attack. The WTC site still smoldered and smoke rose into the sky as I crossed the famed Long Island Sound bridge.

I will never forget that day.

9/11 was sunny - crystal clear, deep blue sky. I went to work and I heard the news on the radio: a plane had crashed into one of the WTC towers. I thought to myself: "how can this be? The day was bright, sunny and clear." The rest is history.

I lost my job less than a month later. I survived. Today I work from home as a graphic designer -- and I am fortunate to have loved-ones, family, friends... and Blu-rays (no disrespect intended).

I am so blessed.

Yeah I live in NY to. Newburgh to be exact, about 100 miles from the City. I live 5 miles from West Point. I was in my Junior year in high school on September 11th and my father actually worked for the NYPD, but actually wasnt working that day, he was of course called it for several weeks to the site to hand out safety items to the men and women cleaning up. To this day he suffers from acid reflux due to the toxins in the air at the WTC site. So I appriciate everything these men and women had done. Fortunetly I didnt know anyone personally that was killed or injured although my bestfriends uncle and my teachers brother actually worked in the building and didnt survive.

I loved this movie when I saw it on DVD, but I guess its because im a NYer that I have an attachment to it and want it on blu

I've seen the comparisons and it's hard to make a choice as to which version looks best... I own the HD DVD version and I love sharpness as is.. It's clean, very windowish! Great colors and 3D pop! This is what high def should look like all the time!

Just be sure to watch this in a darker environment. The dark scenes shouldn't be a problem if you're display is calibrated right.

The only real spec making the HD DVD version better is the audio. (1.5 mbps vs Blu-ray's 640kbps)

As we all know, HD DVD is dead now so at the end of the day Blu-ray has the upper hand.. If I didn't own this already, I would pick this up the Blu-ray in a heart beat just for the PQ and audio alone!

OP: Paramount has some of the best looking titles.. Check out Blake Snake Moan, Shooter, MI3.. Just wait to see how good some of the Paramount HD DVD exclusives offering where.. People will be pleased.. Transformers? Beowulf anyone?

Any news if Paramount plans to re-release this with lossless sound? Had the HD-DVD but never got around to get the BD.

I was about to get this for 9.99 from Amazon, then I noticed they listed this version and a 2-disc version. But looking at the covers, they both say 2-disc on them. Is this 9.99 version actually a 1-disc version missing the disc of extras?

I don't normally like movies like this because it reminds me of the terrible tragedy that happened that day. Very depressing to watch....

Best Buy also has this, along with about 15+ other titles, in a new cardboard display. $9.99 each.

It sure it! World Trade Center is not an easy movie to watch in its entirety, without becoming sincerely emotional. I couldn't finish it!

Yeah, it's basiclly all the Paramount title they have taken over and re-issued. Fatal Attraction was in there and lots of stuff I didn't care about.
