Default Are there some numbers of HD players sold?

For HD DVD and BD side?
All I know for now is that around 750K PS3s were sold.

one or two more ps3's have been sold than that
http://www.vgcharts.org/

let's overexagerate and pretend hd-dvd has sold 500k units (maybe not an exageration, but i doubt it). this would mean the ps3 alone has almost tripled sales and it doesn't include the standalone numbers.

Niiice 750K was the number someone posted on another forum as number of PS3 sold on holidays. I didn't think it'd pick up to 1.31 after that. But, very impressive.
As HD DVD dudes say, PS3 is killing Blu-Ray
Still, how come there are no numbers available on STB players sold from either camp?

from deep of my decy vaults comes this crazy decicalculation

November

Wii : 476,000/12 = 39,666 daily
xBox: 511,000/30 = 17,033 daily
PS3: 197,000/14 = 14,071 daily
add on: 42,000/24 = 1750 daily.

December 24:

xBox: 1,489,000//24 = 62,041 daily
Wii : 1,324,000/24 = 55,166 daily
PS3: 553,000/24 = 23,041 daily
add on: 152,980/24 = 6,374 daily (estimate)

195,000 add ons. on Xmas + 25,000 + 30000 = 250,000 HD
750,000 PS3s on xmas + 5000 + 5000 + 5000 + 20,000 = 785,000 BD players in the US

3 to 1.

with at least 60% PS3ers (taken from poll after it was posted on the other forum) buying BD then its 450,000 + 35,000 = 485,000 BD "users"

then about 2 to 1

Looking at the http://www.vgcharts.org/ chart I see 820,000 PS3s after the new years weekend. I had calculated 850,000 by years end. Damn! i missed!

I for one don't believe the XBox 360 numbers. I guess XMas can inflate sales but I think that when all is said and done, the Xbox numbers are going to be revised downwards.

yeah.

my best crazydecicalculations from what i could gather around (Use the Force Luke)

But I think that if I'm way off a 100%, it still makes the worst case scenario be 1:1 at the moment, which is similar to what an e-tailer said on another forum about the proportion of discs selling now from his store (ask Petra) so I imagine the flip flopping of sales favoring BD will commence to occur now as people start buying media for their players after Xmas. Inertia is a big law of thermodynamics or something, ya know

If the add-on managed to maintain November rates it would be a bloody miracle (4x launch would be nearly impossible to believe). It was readily available at the end of November, and that was sales based on hype since its announcement at last CES!

My guess is that the add-on sold around 30K for December, for a 72K total. And it will now fall off rapidly since people who want it, already have it.

Add 70K G1 HD DVD and perhaps 20K A2s and the HD DVD total (my guess) is 162K through December. About 1/2 Toshiba's projection. And 340K short of their end of March goal, with nothing to drive sales.

The LG announcement will probably halt A2 sales dead until people see what kind of player it is.

ol'righty then! (Jim Carrey voice )

162,000 HD DVD vs 785,000 BD is 5:1

using the 60% BD PS3 user poll numbers (Tho the poll was originally 85% before it was mentioned on the other forum )

162,000 HD DVD vs 485,000 BD is 3:1

Of course my HD DVD owning friend keeps sending me all these blogs from HD DVD/xBox admirers that say they see stacks of PS3s gathering cowebs at Best Buy week after week, so, who knows!

Default Are there some numbers of HD players sold? The number for NA is in: 175,000 HD DVD

Consumers Connect with HD DVD Brand, Driving Hardware and Movie Sales

Quote:
Fueled by brisk sales of second-generation Toshiba HD DVD players, the
HD DVD drive for Xbox 360, and HD DVD-enabled Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo
laptops and desktop PCs from companies like Acer, HP, Niveus and Toshiba,
HD DVD's installed base is estimated to have exceeded 175,000 in North
America.
So, that's 175K for EVERYTHING.

So, we know these numbers:

As of the end of Nov, the numbers were:

60K G1 players (and derivatives) (discount 10K for elsewhere)
42K add-ons
------------
102K

So, since then they've sold another 75K of EVERYTHING.

So much for 125K stand-alones and a 150K add-ons.

At a conservative 10% usage for PS/3, and 40K stand-alones, the two formats are tied for installed base.

All the polls I seen on PS3 BD usage on PS3 sites sites say 60-80%.

So now we know: 175K for North America

Figure 200K worldwide (so terrible, they didn't announce it).

And there is nothing left. The add-on sales will now dry up. Heck, all sales will dry up until people know whether something they are interested in will work with this new 50GB disc.

Seems they are so desperate, they are ready to obsolete the A1/XA1 (at least).

Well I can ask my friend when I see him again to give me back the urls of all those blogs and forums where they're saying Sony PS3 sales are in a slump and they make stories about how people ask for Wiis that are sold-out and the Brian and ProvenFlippers of the world tell them: "But we have a consolation price: the PS3". And people balk at the $500 price and say No way! and walk out. Honest. I read that on some links he sent me.

btw, now that someone at the other place has been confronted with the TRUE HD DVD numbers: 175,000 HD DVD players vs 1,050,000 BD players
he is saying:
Quote:
Yeah and 28 per player attachment rate for HD-DVD to less than 1 per player for BD!!!!

so mmm.. Decicalculator to the rescue!

175,000 x 28 = 5 million discs (125,000,000 $ in HD disc sales? )

but let's humor him

5,000,000 / 147 titles means!

each HD DVD title selling 33,333 copies each!

Amazing! The Break Up selling 13,333 more copies than M:i:III HD DVD + Blu-ray discs combined!

and all the other 145 titles selling 33,333 copies each too! (Except poor M:i:III, which sold only 20,000 copies counting both formats to become the best selling high definition disc of it's time)

Don't you love mathematics? Maybe there, every number is multiplied by 2 or something to get neat numbers!

Anyway If every BD player owner is just buying 1 BD movie for his $500 or $1000 or $1500 BD player, I think its a bit of a raw deal don't you think? all that poor million people spending between 500 and 1500 dollars just to watch one freaking movie! The humanity!

Where is the Lysol?!?

Fumigate me!
