i do not have a receiver or any speakers yet but everytime i put in a blu ray to play on my tv i hear this loud popping noise for a couple seconds from the tv speakers
it's not heard during playback, just right before the movie starts...is there something wrong? (i have a samsung plasma (HP-S5033) and i have the ps3 connected to it via hdmi) |

You should not hear a pop. What is the brand of your HDMI cable? Also scan through AVS forums for some further advice on this topic. |

![]() EDIT: could it be because of the frequencies i set/audio set on ps3? i checked off pcm on the ps3 and checked off all the frequencies as well...could this be the problem? if so, what should i set it at? Last edited by Erman_94; 04-12-2008 at 05:26 PM. |

Kris Deering explained to me that this is normal for the PS3, as I have the same issue. This is his explanation.

I do, however, get a nice little box saying, "Your TV has received an incompatible audio signal...". At least now that I know what it's protecting me from, I can live with it a little easier. I don't get it before playing a movie, typically, but if I'm playing a S-DVD and switching around modes in upscaling, or playing a BD that has extras on it that are in standard def., it does it every time...and this is the only time that it does it. Can you let the PS3 boot for a second and then turn your tv on?? This is obviously not a solution to your problem, but it might be a good enough band aid for now until you can better diagnose the problem so you don't end up causing damage to your TV Speakers. I wish I had better ideas, but good luck man. ![]() |

"This is a known issue withe PS3. It drops its HDMI output completely when it switches resolutions during BD playback. Some AVRs and SSPs already have muting on digital inputs to eliminate this issue, but with these you normally get a short pause before you hear sound that some people find annoying (especially with CDs). The only thing you can do to completely eliminate it is replace your AVR or SSP with one that has this muting." I don't hear the pop on mine because it mutes it automatically on my TV - but I do get the "incompatible audio signal" message everytime. If mine didn't mute it by itself, I'd bet a dollar to a donut I'd be hearing the pop each time as well. It's a pretty well known issue with PS3 and HDMI connections. I've read about it elsewhere, but never put 2+2 together until now. I dunno that it's a frequency issue -- though if you're TV won't accept the frequencies you're checking off it might not be a good thing. I think the two issues are separate though. But who knows, I could be wrong. I'm mucking through this, same as you. ![]() |

What about when you're switching menus? If you have a BD that has standard definition bonus features on it, try to switch to one of those on the fly and see if you get the pop. Then go back to the movie and see if it pops again... If it does, definitely the same thing mine is doing, and at the same times. Now I think of it, I do get the message on mine sometimes before a movie starts. Typically when the BD goes straight to a menu instead of auto-starting the movie. |

Another way to try it, and this is what I did to replicate it, is to fast forward or rewind during the movie for a few seconds, the hit play. Mine pops every time because the PS3 will change it's output to nothing while it's fast forwarding/rewinding, and pick it back up when you play, causing it to pop.
