Default Sony DDW 900 Speaker upgrade worthwhile?

Hi Everyone

I have a sony ddw900 surround sound system....is it worth me upgrading my speakers for this unit? Will the sound, sound any better if i get aftermarket speakers or will it sound about the same as the oem speakers? It is a cheap unit and am wondering if i should bother upgrading my speakers!

Thanks Bunches

I have a very similar reciever the HTD-DW790. I just upgraded the speakers not too long ago. I got the SS-B3000 bookshelf speakers http://www.amazon.com/Sony-SS-B3000-...9147620&sr=1-1

The SS-CR3000 center channel and rear speakers http://www.amazon.com/Sony-SS-CR3000...9147620&sr=1-4

And the SA-W2500 Sub http://www.amazon.com/Sony-SA-W2500-...9147744&sr=1-3

Everything will cost you around $300. There is a clear difference in sound quality. It floods the room with sound and everything is so much clearer. Music sounds more natural. And when I watch a movie, wow, I felt like I was at the ocean watching Pirates 2. Go for it.

i will be honest and will say i am not sure what speakers to go with! I think i want to start off with replacing the center or the front speakers. i do not have a large budget $300 at best at the moment. What would you recommend?

Crackinz might need to step in here, because I recall him recommending a pair of polks that went for $200 (floor standers) and the Center can be had for $80 or so....

Probably your best bet, and I'm pretty sure you'll see a big improvement.

They sounded much better. The OEM speakers had a metallic sound to them. It still sounded nice, but the new set sounds incredible. It's more natural, deeper, and richer. The center channel is clearer and the dialogue is easier to hear. Music wise there is a huge difference as well. It's worth the upgrade.

As far as which ones to go with first, I'd go with the center channel and rear set. You get three speakers for around $80-100 depending on how Amazon is feeling. I got mine for $78.

I have this same surround sound system. I was wondering how you have yours setup. Are you running optical cables from your ps3 to the reciever or are you using HDMI cables. I know this is a low end reciever, but I want to know how this works with the Hi-def audio codecs. I know you can run an HDMI wire from your ps3 to the reciever cuz the ps3 decodes everything to LPCM.

thanks alot man. I want to get the onkyo 605, but I just bought the sony like a year ago. My wife would kill me for just asking. Oh well. It does sound good though, I just watched Live Free or Die Hard on bluray. My little apartment was shaking. Share with us how the speaker upgrade works out. I have considered upgrading the subwoofer and the center speaker, we'll see what happens.

Its noticeable on some movies. That's why Im interested in at least upgrading my center speaker. Just haven't decided which one. I seen one at best buy. Sony (dont know the model name or number) it's $99. Read good reviews.

I'd highly recommend spending a little more and look into the $200/pair polk floor-standers I was talking about, as Sony isn't really praised for their speakers.

If you're trying to stick to that budget, at least listen to these while you're there, next to the sonys
