Default how is dts master displayed on onkyo 605?

this is probably the maddest question ever on this forum. i recently swapped internet providers and it took 2.5 months to set back up. so ive had no internet for 2.5 months. when i do get back they have released and update for ps3 to accept dts master audio. so i got the update on ps3...now on v2.35 on ps3. tried die hard 4.0 but it only changed on my onkyo 605 from displaying multichannel to dts and that was it. i thought it should display dts master audio. im connected hdmi and selected bitstream on ps3.........wtf????
help please

The PS3 decodes it therefore it will not be displayed on the receiver.

You want to set your PS3 to "Linear PCM". This way, the PS3 will decode the DTS HD-MA, and send it to your receiver as Multi-Channel. If you're doing it right, your receiver will NOT say DTS HD-MA.

When you set it to bitstream, you are only sending the DTS "core" to your receiver to decode. It won't sounds as good as allowing your PS3 to decode the DTS HD-MA and send it to the receiver as PCM.

Your 605 should say "Multich" since the decoding of DTS-MA is being done in the PS3, the PS3 is then sending L PCM to your Onkyo.

set the PS3 HDMI audio output to Linear PCM.

Hit 'select' or 'display' on the PS3 remote during the movie, you will see what audio codec is being played. Your Receiver will display PCM.

Yeah, it is a little dissappointing. If it means that much to you, you'd need to get a player that will bitstream DTS HD-MA. That will allow your receiver to decode it and it will display on the receivers screen.

From what I've heard, the PS3 (current versions) will never be able to bitstream the DTS HD-MA. I'm just happy that it's able to decode it. Good enough for me for now.
