Default Powerdvd 7.3 OEM won't play V For Vendetta

Here we go again.....

Powerdvd won't play the newly released V For Vendetta -- one of my favorite movies!!!!!!

I have version 7.03.3723, which seems to be the latest update (from this web page):

http://www.cyberlink.com/multi/patch...ildID=00002971

Choosing "upgrade" from the configuration menu in the software only represents the option to upgrade to version 8.0, which I imagine would cost money....and very likely wouldn't fix my problem anyway - since, in all likelihood, the problem is an encryption issue, as with 310 to Yuma and Across The Universe -- and will thus likely be an issue with ALL versions of powerdvd (please let me know if my educated guess on this is wrong).

Upgrading to Ultra is not an option. I've read here where people have done this, and after spending their 100 bucks, the software STILL doesn't play certain movies. Plus, considering the way they treat their customers, they don't deserve any more money from me!

I'm of course going to email these @%@#s yet again, and see what kind of bs response I get from them this time. I'll let y'all know what their response is, if necessary.

Nonetheless, does anyone have a resolution to this problem, that won't cost me $?

it all depends on what "won't play" means...
what does it do when you put the movie in?

With a HTPC each title is an adventure. Will it play???? Who knows.

In terms of software like PowerDVD you get some upgrades and then they raise the overall revision number and suddenly the "working" version is NEW and you have to buy it AGAIN.

I haven't use a HTPC for a few years and mine was only for DVD but in my experience WinDVD was always better then powerDVD. I would usually buy WinDVD and use the filters in a directshow player like Zoomplayer.

Taking a quick look about the forum I don't see these titles mentioned as problematic with WinDVD... Maybe that would be a better software.

I'm going to code a Blu-Ray playing application for the PC and call it BlueWinPower-DVD .... and port it to Mac and call it "Blu-Slice".

It won't work properly, but I'm going to charge $200 for it on the Mac (and $100 on the PC).

It will look cool on the Mac - but it will suck on the PC - not that it will work right on either.

Every 6 months, we'll release a revision for the PC that costs money to update to, and every 2 years we'll release a new version for the Mac, that still doesn't work, but maintains the $200 price, and looks even cooler.

I'm going to be rich.

Simply reinforcing that the player softwares suck, but it would suck less on a mac - because macs are just cool.

Hey,

*sorry my info isn't very current as I never did Blu Ray with HTPC*

However,.. Since you have the powerDVD OEM installed.. can't you use the windows media player to play the blu rays?

EDIT- Or VLC perhaps?

No, due to the additional copy protection layers involved, you can't play Blu-ray using simple "filters" the way you can with DVDs. You're pretty much locked in to the actual playback application.

As for the problem with this title, I'm surprised (given how popular the title is) that more people haven't been complaining about it. If its a widespread problem, then obviously they'll need to fix this title, but given Cyberlink's track record, I would bet on not seeing that for 1-2 months.

I know WinDVD 9 Plus Blu-ray's track record has been better, but that's another $99 for just the software. They have a trial, but the trial version doesn't support Blu-ray, so you can't even really test it to see if it works on a specific title before buying.

Thanks for this important info, actchan. The more people Cyberlink hears from, the higher they will likely prioritize the pursuit of a resolution to this problem.

Hopefully they'll inform me as to when the next patch will be released, and whether it's slated to allow "Vendetta" to play..... I'll post the info here, whenever/if ever I get word from them.

If anyone here receives any info from cyberlink about a patch release for this movie, please post the info here. Keep in mind that cyberlink posts at least 3 different patches, for different player versions, and not all patches released at about the same time will allow the same BDs to be played on all of the 3+ different versions of the player.(7.3 EOM, 7.3 Ultra, 8.0, etc.). So please post which version the newly released (or soon to be released) patch is for, what Cyberlink may claim that it will resolve, and what experiences you've had with your player version since loading the patch, if applicable.

[I'm wondering if maybe we should start a thread devoted solely to cyberlink patches. It certainly doesn't look as though this problem is going to go away anytime soon....]
Thanks.
