Default Is Blu-ray the definite future of home entertainment?

I've been collecting a good amount of Blu-ray disc for awhile , without a player even (now that i've sold my samsung and waiting for panasonic bd-50), I have over 90, and I've got several on pre-order, i am thankful I never had a big DVD collection when Blu-ray came out, but if I buy all my favorite movies each week when new or catalog titles are released and get a huge collection, and then some new Home entertainment comes out that's is supposed to be better than Blu-ray and then Blu-ray get's left in dust and I have to start selling my BD's. Im not saying anything can be better than Blu , I just dont know ,that's why i ask. Is Blu-ray the definate future of Home Entertainment?

But he's asking how long, i dont think we have to worry about a new tech coming soon. the BDA didnt spend all there money backing something thats going to last 5 years..to the op, dont worry about Blu-ray its going be around for more than 10 years.

I agree, 10 years and then some because regular DVD isn't going away yet. Look how long it took VHS to leave. Wasn't it nearly 20 years? We will know something is on the way when there is a BD bargain bin at walmart.

Default Is Blu-ray the future?

It's the definite future....for now. Digital downloads, and VOD are the biggest threats. I think there's room for all...

Blu-ray is going to be here for a long time. In fact, studios are counting on Blu-ray to offset the increased costs associated with movie production.

Granted, technology is always evolving, and at a rate quicker now then ever, but to echo some other thoughts, look at how long it took VHS to convert and DVD is still the mass market favorite. I dont think that BD will be a one hit wonder. Enjoy it and by the time something that much better comes out, you probably wont care if you buy new stuff!

I collected about 1,100 DVDs, but since MOST were bought between 1997 and 2002 or so (then I still got a lot, just slowed down probably) I don't regret having purchased them all "Pre-Blu" I still think they're great movies, and very enjoyable..... I don't watch a movie on PQ/AQ merits alone.... I get into a good story-line, and forget that I'm not watching a blu....

But I think Blu could have a similar run to DVD, maybe longer, maybe shorter. You never know.

The blu-ray technology has the potential to produce an outstanding picture even on a very large screen limited by typical real estate restrictions. I think any improvements above and beyond blu-ray would be not significant in a home environment. Therefore, my conclusion is that the blu-technology will be around well into the future. The displays may change, players may change, sound systems may change, industry technical processes will be improved however the blu-ray technology will stay around for sometime to come. Hence, IMO, your blu-ray collection will last for a very long time (provided the original material is transferred with all due diligence).

I think Downloads will stay as a rental option for a long time until it gets better. DVDs will stick around for a long time too (since they are also backward compatible). Blu-ray WILL be the standard for Home Theater Entertainment.
It will just take a while for it to happen.

They'll need more than Blu Ray for that...

"Report: Blu-ray Can't Overcome Escalating Movie Costs"

http://www.homemediamagazine.com/new...ticle_ID=12791

Quote:
Tom Adams, president of Adams Media Research, said the arrival of DVD helped studios generate 50% of their revenues. He said Blu-ray would not have the same impact, and new media sources of incremental revenue such as electronic downloads and streaming would only slightly ease the margin declines.

“Although we expect continued revenue expansion, the market won't be returning to DVD-era growth anytime soon, so it's crucial that studios pare down expanding costs and wisely manage upcoming film slates to maximize their profitability,” Adams said.

No. There are discs being created to store possible terabytes onto 1 disc. But that technology is too new and too expensive now. Also being made are higher definition tv's, higher than 1080p. Eventually there will be a movie system for that.

No, eventually disks, tv and the internet will be phased out in favor of jacking in and having the movie beamed directly into your brain. So internet downloads, VOD, Blu-ray, 4k and whatever have a finite lifespan. How long that will be nobody knows, they've been working on it for years now.

Very clearly and thoroughly stated.

It will have a minimum ten-year run before obsolescense, probably a little longer.

Good TVs last, (I have a 24-year-old Emerson still working as my second unit), and while some people have a lot of disposable income, most people are not too eager to dispose of a $2000-$4000 investment in a TV until it doesn't work anymore. Most people are not going to upgrade on impulse. People buying TVs now are spending much more for them than they did in the past, and they're bound to get attached to them. I'd make love to my home theater if I could, and I know I'm not alone.

Is Blu-ray the definite future of home entertainment? Yes

I read an article in Home Theater magazine that was talking about downloadable movies. They were saying the max resolution of downloads are 720p or 1080i compared to 1080p for Blu Ray. One of the biggest downsides to downloading is no HD audio so no DD True HD, DTS MA, or PCM, this aspect alone kills HD downloads for me. The article also said that while downloads may become more prevelent but Blu Ray will be king of the castle for a long time.

Is Blu-ray the definite future of home entertainment? Yes, but as some one said technology progresses.

Who is downloading HD movies anyways ?
Who is killing his bandwith by downloading 20GB for one single movie ?

I hear you all talk about downloads but I'd like to know who actually does download such huge packs for just one movie ? and what do you do with it ? does it sit on your hard drive ? or do you burn it on blurays ?
