Quote:
Zodiac "is included for 99% (not filmed!) With Thomson High Definition cameras in the 1080p24fps HDTV format (1920x1080 pixels), the digital data is loaded directly into the computer. The entire film is then processed in color stylistically, while many special effects and CGI / SFX shots have been added. The film was then to the cinema on 35mm film in the 2.40:1 format (The process with a "Digital Intermediate").
The image of this movie is on this Blu-ray DVD in a 1080p24fps Full HD resolution and is transmitted via the HDMI connection, on a 70 "Full HD 1080x1920 display, in its proper 2.40:1 widescreen display screen format.
The image of this Blu-ray Disc (BD) is sharp with good contrast and very good schaduwdetail. The colors of the film are digitally adjusted and contain a stylistic green / yellow undertone. It is also in very weakened and brightness that make the film a somewhat dark and sober atmosphere. The black vote is very good and solid. Depth and detail of the film is also remarkable. The film is free from damage and dirt. Filmgrain missing also, as well digital compressiefoutjes. Beeldruis is only sporadically very light. This is more than a good transfer that the atmosphere and ambience of the San Francisco of the 60s and 70s knows very effective display.
Comparison with the DVD transfer of the standard Bioscoopversie (the DVD version of the Director's Cut is not in our possession):
The image of this Blu-Ray is compare a whole relief. The DVD transfer of the bioscoopversie was a huge disappointment. Despite upscaling to 1080p. The HD 1080p image is sharper, tighter and more solid with a better contrast and color balance dynamic gamut leaving much more visible and a much better schaduwdetail present. Because of its high resolution with the efficient VC-1 video also contains the image much more depth and detail. Something that is not only in the foreground, surface detail, but also the backgrounds get more weight and scope. This is very important because this film is a fairly dark and there are many in the dark or the darkness playing. The high resolution also makes the image that no longer has compressiefoutjes. In short, this Blu-ray is tighter, more robust and much more detailed, and that makes the movie much more realistic and convincing manner.
Quote:
On this Blu-ray Disc are only standard Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtracks 640 kb / s *) in various languages.
The English DD5.1 soundtrack sounds warm, full and dynamic, with a good additional layer. The mix contains at the front and a good wide stereo sound image with clearly understandable dialogues. This sounds clear and pure. The front channel by the additional rear channels continuously and actively supported by a mild atmosphere, and ambient music, where there are several moments that they are supplemented with mild aggressive securities. The whole creates a good range and depth of the sound stage. It is constantly split-surround. In the low It also includes a neat and good support from the LFE.1 channel.
Zodiac is no action and therefore contains no aggressive soundmix. The mix is subtle, plays mainly on the mind of the viewer, and the viewer knows very effective in the middle of the movie. It's just a pity that Warner not a high-resolution audio DD has used as a DD + or a DD TrueHD. Probably because of space by the amount of extras. This is anyway a bad thing.
Comparison with the DVD transfer of the standard Bioscoopversie (the DVD version of the Director's Cut is not in our possession):
On the DVD edition is an English DD5.1 on its low bitrate of 384 kb / s. This BD is a DD5.1 soundtrack to his standard maximum bitrate of 640 kb / s
By directly compare BD falls on this in a positive sense again the absence of the PAL speed-up. The appeal also bitrate of the DD soundtrack the result is a fuller and richer geluidbeeld with much more detail, better distribution of the securities and a greater dynamism. The support in the low now includes many more nuances and body because it goes through tighter and more controlled.

Thumbs down

Paramount - 2 Disc Director's CUT HD DVD

# Director's Audio Commentary -- David Fincher provides a comprehensive guided tour through the genesis of 'Zodiac,' detailing his intentions, his research, and his deviations from the actual events. I was impressed with his attention to detail in each scene and imagine it was quite easy for the cast and crew to buy into his vision. Fincher has a quiet reverence in his voice anytime he talks about Avery, Graysmith, and Toschi. It's clear from his comments that he truly felt connected to their self-destructive obsession. This is a great starting point for anyone tackling the full set of features.
# Cast and Crew Commentary -- Author James Ellroy, writer James Vanderbilt, producer Brad Fischer, and actors Robert Downey Jr. and Jake Gyllenhaal supply an additional commentary track that rarely encroaches on the information in Fincher's track. For the most part, the group has entirely different stories and points of view. As an added bonus, the conversational nature of the large group commentary keeps things interesting. The actors tend to keep the track light, Fischer throws in some excellent tidbits, and the writers give a fascinating dissertation on adapting the story for film. This is a wonderful track that shouldn't be missed.
# Zodiac Deciphered (HD, 54 minutes) -- Once again, I was pleased with the lack of repetition. This documentary doesn't feature any interviews with Fincher (he merely appears here and there in behind-the-scenes footage), but his commentary already establishes his thoughts on every aspect of the film. Instead, screenwriter James Vanderbilt takes center stage and sets about exploring the way the actual events were recreated for the film. A series of interviews reveal the excruciatingly thorough research, the on-set attention to detail, and the cast and crew's determination to make the film something unique.
# The Visual Effects of Zodiac (HD, 15 minutes) -- This featurette covers the subtle CGI work used to enhance the authenticity of key scenes. To be honest, I hadn't noticed that CGI was employed in the film, so I was particularly intrigued by this one.
# Previsualization (SD, 6 minutes) -- The only standard definition supplement in the bunch, this featurette compares a handful of animatics to the scenes that appeared in the final film.
# This is the Zodiac Speaking (HD, 101 minutes) -- This feature length documentary is a monster, packed with more information than one person can possibly take in with one viewing. It includes dense procedural summations, a tour through the Zodiac case, and interviews with survivors and investigators involved in the case. This is an intricate tapestry of information that is worth the price of the disc alone. If you watch nothing else, spend time digging through this one.
# Prime Suspect: His Name Was Arthur Leigh Allen (HD, 42 minutes) -- This is another informative documentary that focuses on the prime suspect in the Zodiac killings. Another top notch component in the package.
# Theatrical Trailer (HD, 2 minutes)
