Default Blu-ray profile v1.1 (Bonus View)

I have a SONY BD S301 and it has the latest firmware (3.9). But I just got the National Treasure 2 Blu-Ray and it has a feature which I need "Bonus View" in order to use. I found (on this site) that this Bonus View is a new profile ("Blu-ray profile v1.1") and I understand also, that it is new in 2008. But does anyone know if this is a software that will become available to upgrade my current player? Or is this part of the evolution of the format and (other than Playstations which I believe can get v1.1 in a WinDVD ??) I won't be able to get it with out getting a new player? It sounded like it was a software upgrade - not a hardware item. I couldn't find any reference to it on the SONY site.

Any direction, assistance - or comments would be appreciated.

James

Your player will not do 1.1 features, you need a new one

I think it's important to mention that there is also a profile 2.0, which is BD-Live. Basically the 2.0 players have an ethernet port that lets you connect the player to the internet to access special features and firmware updates via the internet. So . . . if you're considering a new player, you may want to get a 2.0 player while you're at it. Panasonic BD-50 or Playstation 3 would do the trick. The forthcoming Sony BDP-S350 and S550 will also support 2.0.

The BDP-S350 will ship "BD Live ready", like the newly released Samsung 1500. Not 2.0 out of the box, but upgradable with a firmware update.

The 350 is being billed as "2.0 ready." From what I've gathered (and I haven't done extensive research into it, but some) it will be 1.1 out of the box, but a firmware update will make it 2.0 compliant.

Does "BD Live ready" mean they will ship with the required 1gb memory, or will that have to be added via a storage device (memory card or flash drive)?

I'am pretty sure it will use the SD slot for storage. I mean Profile 2.0 is nice on paper but in really it's just slow and hugging. I can download a 1080p trailers on Quiktime.com in 2-3 minutes. While it take 40minutes on Walk Hard. and i'am not sure it's even 1080p

It didn't take me nearly that long to download anything from Walk Hard. Maybe 4 or 5 minutes if I remember right.
