Not every Blu-ray fan has reason to celebrate their win. Congrats though.

As much of a Pats fan as I am, I'm sort of glad that they didn't make it in this year. I don't know that I could deal with all the hoopla that would have surrounded it for the next two weeks as everything would be all about the game.

I hope to be pleasantly surprised, but for me, the Pats-Colts game basically was the SuperBowl.

I just still see the AFC being appreciably better than the NFC from top to bottom, so after that, we come back to the lesson of the OSu-UF game a couple of weeks back:

Tougher games. Tougher conference. Better opponents. Who did the Bears beat this year vs. who did the Colts beat this year?

It's not even close.

I just think the Colts are a better team, especially with Peyton Manning, who deserves to get a Super Bowl ring.

I'm still trying to figure out how the Bears got 39 points against the Saints with a QB like Grossman and his horrible numbers and performance.

To call Grossman "inconsistent" is putting it mildly. He isn't at UF anymore where Steve Spurrior is holding his hand for him and rotating him out with another guy when he throws an INT or is having a bad series. This is the big leagues, kid!

He makes Trent Dilfer with the Ravens a few years back look like Dan Marino in comparison.

The Bears do have a pretty good defense, though. The Colts can't run the ball for @#$%, and that could be where the Bears can make some things happen: Stuff the tepid running game of the Colts, pressure Manning on every down, and run at least one ball back for a TD if not more and they might find a way to win this thing.

Anything less than perfection by the Bears could equal an embarassing blow out in short order, especially if the Colts get red hot like they did in the second half of that game with the Pats. At that rate, the Colts will just outscore pretty much anyone, especially a team with a putrid offense like the Bears.

And folks, this Bears team couldn't tie the 85 Bears team's shoes. Let's get that out of the way.

Don't get the wrong idea: I have a soft spot in my heart for the Bears, but I just don't like their chances against Peyton Manning and this Colts team.

If the Bears end up winning this thing, I will be VERY impressed.

Chris,

What is the deal with Bellichek blowing of Manning after the game? He's done it to others when he's lost also. He comes off as a sore loser and a jerk.

remember what denny from the cardinals said "crown the bears". i rest my case. plus i guarantee that if they sack manning with like a few other bears on top u know damn well that someone is gonna be elbowing the shit outta him just make him less prone to throwing. and hes gonna play with a bruised thumb. if it gets broken thats it. urlacher will break it for him.

"my name is urlacher and i got the muscle, ill **** manning up with da superbowl shuffle" LMFAO

He is. Nothing against the Pats personally, but I'm glad HE lost.

The Cardinals? LOL, they're terrible!

You mean, the same Denny Green that doesn't have a job right now? The one that got his ass fired after a handful of years of flushing the Cardinals down the tubes after being fired from the Vikings before that for the same reason?

That Denny Green?

What was the Cardinals record this year? How much did the Bears blow them out by? I honestly can't remember.

Not much of one.

Hate to tell you this, but his thumb is pretty much fine now and certainly will be after a two week hiatus.

If the Bears D is really as good as we've been let to believe, then yes, Manning should be under pressure.

^^ That's the only way this Bears team has a snowball's chance in hell of winning. If Manning is well protected and is making those throws? It'll probably be over with by halftime.

I think my IQ just dropped several points.

It's got to be more than just Urlacher having a good game. That entire Bears squad on BOTH sides of the ball needs to have the game of their lives or they will lose.

EDIT: http://proxy.espn.go.com/nfl/scouting?gameId=270204003

^^ Read that.

Special teams will be huge in this game, as the Bears had the best special teams in the league this year and the Colts' were among the worst.
See the part about special teams? I couldn't agree more. Devon Hester can make these Colts special teams guys look like fools. The Bears need at least one TD from Hester and this is as ripe a chance as he can get to do it.

Special teams are the Coltss weakest link by far.

You should be royally angry today as a Bears fan.

Look back over this thread.

I think we all saw what we expected. I know I certainly saw exactly what I expected and predicted.

Even the Chicago home press was not overly optimistic about the Bears' chances in this game. Everyone knew Grossman was going to be THE weak link for the Bears and probably cost them the game outright.

They were right.

The Bears needed great play out special teams and they got in Hester. They needed Hester to do something special and he did. I'm sorry Hester was confined to special teams. They should have tried him in some offensive plays or some misdirection/trick plays of some sort. Why not? He's your best weapon by far on the team.

Defense? They played well but they were simply on the field for way too long. In the first half or so, they were clearly the more physical team but they just kept going back out there and got worn down.

Why?

Bears offense: They have a nicerunning game but when the Colts defense knows you can't pass for crap, they can put 8 guys in the box on a bunch of plays and not really worry about it.

That's what happened. Turnovers by Grossman ice it.

The Colts defense stepped up in the last part of the season, but let's face it: They were given a lot of easy gifts.

A Bears fan today should feel the same way Ohio State fans felt at the beginning of the month. Angry and seeing a wasted oppurtunity.

In fact, this is almost worse because the Bears could have had a chance if someone simply made a QB change before allowing Grossman to completely crap the game away for his team.

OSU's team never showed up at all.

The Bears actually did show up and I think the game could have even been better if you had a real quarterback.

Grossman lost the game for the Bears. It's as simple as that. How many more INTs was Grossman going to be allowed to throw before they made a change?

In the biggest game of the year, it should be balls to the wall and empting out the entire closet of trickets.

Why in the world Lovie Smith didn't make a QB change in this game is beyond me. What do you have to lose?

He's a good coach and the Bears are a pretty good team, but at the rate things were going? Why NOT make a QB change? How could it have been any worse?

I was waiting for Grossman to rip of his jersey and I'd see Colts colors because he was doing plenty to help them out.

The weather made bad lucks and fumbles for everyone, so that washed out pretty evenly.

Anyways, Peyton Manning got his Super Bowl ring and cements himself as the best QB playing the game today.

Grossman is probably the worst QB to ever play in a SuperBowl. He made Trent Dilfer look like Dan Marino.

At least Trent Dilfer knew his role on the team and didn't make mistakes, unlike Grossman.

I was looking for it, but honestly: The commercials were so lame and terrible this year that I honestly wasn't paying that much attention.

Footnote: This is why I love college sports and football WAY more than pros.

If last night's game had been a college football game in a major bowl, you know you would have seen all kinds of madness and trick plays and excitement from the Bears to try and stay in this thing and win. And who knows? Maybe they would have.

Think Boise St vs. Oklahoma. That bowl game was the best football game I'd seen in years anywhere of any kind. That's the kind of game that MAKES people like football.

But in the pros? What do they care if they win the game? The Bears players, like the rest of them, know they're still getting their paychecks no matter what anyways.

I watched the first three quarters, and did not see one.

Between the 3rd and 4th though, there was a Toshiba HDDVD Commercial. It stinks though.

Honestly, I have seen this commercial a bunch of times before on my cable HD channels. Dude hanging from a helicopter holding a chick, and they end up falling onto a couch? That one. For the longest time I thought it was a commercial for HiDef in general, but only last night did I realize for the first time that it was actually for the Toshiba players.

The best part though? The commercial was aired in SD. During the SUPERBOWL, when SO many commercials were aired in HiDef, they air the HDDVD player commercial in SD? So dumb.

How fitting. They can't even afford a new commercial, done in high def no less.

HD-DVD is a stopgap of today's technology and shortsighted thinking. Blu-Ray is long term thinking and involves future/cutting edge technology.

Actually it's a prop and a smokescreen being held up by Microsoft to deliberately keep the market split up, but I digress.

HD-DVD is one of the biggest scams to ever hit the world of consumer electronics.

Blu-Ray is long term thinking and involves future/cutting edge technology.

When the game lost any sembelance of competitiveness, I admit I just wasn't paying that much attention to any of it.

I really hope the BDA took advantage of this obvious oppurtunity, at least in terms of software sales like: "Comes out Tuesday on DVD and Blu-Ray!"

Truer statements cannot be made, I'm afraid! It was like watching keystone cops! Poor Grossman's face at the end, he looked like an HD DVD fanbois who just heard the latest videoscan numbers!
