Default sony tranforms there controller, video store coming in july(rumor)

I dont know about that controller thing, seems weird.
Quote:
The July 2008 issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly has some interesting rumors this time around. One of those rumors is that Sony Computer Entertainment are working on a peripheral for the PLAYSTATION 3 that "transforms" into different things, one being perfect for an FPS. It's hard to picture how that would work.

The second rumor is that Sony willl be launching their video service around E3 '08, which makes sense, so they can bring us video content straight from E3 as well as some other stuff.
Quote:
Update 11:01 PM: Apparently, EvilOne on NeoGAF is an EA Employee who knows about Sony launching their video service. He responded saying that it is true that they will launch it around E3. The fact that he is an EA employee is unconfirmed although it is highly likely. [Thanks Kendrick!]

Very interesting week for new news and announcements. Sony's firmware upgrades keep getting talk about rumors of alot that may or may not make it into the next patch. Paramount announcements keep flying out. Nice.
Makes me glad I went Hi def this year.

Would be interesting if my controller was 'more than meets the eye'.

May be too little to late for the controller that is pretty much made to combat the Wii remote. If done right it would be nice, but at this point it may just end up being an Add-on, and those tend to not do so well and this may be seen as a gimmick.

Probably is to have something to oppose to the rumors of Wiimote for 360 that keep coming.

Woud lbe nice if it ended up being a real good controler more suited for FPSes than the Sixaxis/DS3

Just as long as my controller doesn't try to kill me...

Is this like a game controller, another replacement to the DS3 that JUST came out?

I will only buy it if...

A) It truly is 'more than meets the eye'.

B) It vibrates while it transforms.

C) It makes that cool transforming noise all transformers make.

That is why I see it as an add on controller and not a replacement. Depending on the design, I don't think they want to replace the DS3.

I could be wrong, I remember buying Sony's Analog controller for the PS1 then 3 months later the first Dual Shock came out and the Analog one was discontinued. I only got it because Sony said the Dual Shock was not going to hit the US.

I hate to say it, but this is when the Adult inductry needs to jump in with its own 'controller' :-)

Maybe in time there will be one. There is an ipod accessory for adults out.

I've always been anti FPS on console due to the pads inability to handle slight movements without too much fuss. If a game controller came out that redefined the control element of the PS3 I would definitely invite myself to buy more FPS games.

except the Wii controller is so cheap (a French magasine totalled the elements of the Nunchuk to about 8 Euros), and the technology inside the Wii are so limited that it can only detect pre-registered moves that trigger a response to screen instead of exactly matching the move you do (it will always do something even if failure so you can believe it's actually revolutionary, but hardcore gamers have understood that and only time a very little move to great advantage)

the Sixaxis follows your movement (not violent movement right now but hope it improves), tested it in Super rub a dub and Operation creature feature

I know Gametrak is making a pad with mercury movement detection (similar to Sixaxis) AND ultrasound movement, that can be modified into a golf club, tennis racket ... that may be interesting

I am hoping that the transformable controller might mean that it is configurable. In other words, you could somehow reposition the controls to suit you. Switching the D-pad and left analog stick, for example. As much as I hate the 360 console (not the games themselves) for the RROD, overheating and tremendous noise, I do LOVE the controller and much prefer it to my Dualshock 3. I'm even considering trying one of those Nyko Zero controllers.

I've always prefered the 360 controller as well; however, I do GREATLY prefer the vibration technology in the DS3. That new vibration tech is simply awesome.

Yeah, if it's something that makes it easier for those transitioning from a PC to a console (for FPS) I'll probably check it out. Otherwise, I'll have to wait and see what it is. I really like the style/layout of the controller as it is so if it's just changing that, I probably won't be interested.
