Default HDMI Problem

Hi folks , my PS3 will not play games via HDMI , after reading up , i found out about the HDMI clock problems it sometimes has. I rang Sony , who were not interested cos i bought it second hand I wouldnt mind, but its a 40 gig that were only launched last Oct.
Anyway , reformatted it , and tried it through composite input on my TV , and hey presto , everything works fine !
The thing i cant understand , i have got 2 HDMI cables , and they both give blocky or no graphics , but both used to work fine. Should i bite the bullet , and spend a load of money on a top HDMI cable , or is it cos i got a cheap unbranded HD tv , and need to get a decent TV ? Like i say , ive only had it for 3 weeks , and it worked fine at first Bluray movies play fine still though , via HDMI

lol. I never even heard of that brand. however i seriously doubt its the HDMI cable it-self. I been using cheap cables from monoprice and they work great

it might be the cheap tv...test it at a friend's hdtv...it's the only way to know if it's the tv or not...maybe you might need to clean the hdmi connectors since you got it second hand...who knows what the previous owner done to the ps3....good luck...

Default It won't be the HDMI cable

It won't be the HDMI cable. No sense in spending $100 on an HDMI cable. Has to be the TV.

check the condition of the ps3 if its second hand, if the hdmi socket is bent or damaged.

asda's stuff is usually quite good wouldnt buy a hdtv from them myself but thats just because i spent a fortune on one less than 6 mmonths ago.

i used to have a faulty hdmi cable that caused digital blocking and the picture to drop out , it was the cable not the console but it had nothing to do with the brand just faulty

Just cuz I am extra cautious, now and in the future I intend to purchase everything from the same company -- Sony PS3 (have that already), Sony receiver (coming soon), and when I eventually replace my TV, it will be a Sony. My HDMI cables are all from the same company (not Sony) as well and I have spares just in case and will purchase 1 or 2 more spares of different sizes just in case .

Anyway, I assume you have latest firmware for PS3? R u connecting directly to TV or through AV receiver? If the latter, try a direct connection just to see if that fixes it. Also, f using an AV receiver, check to see if there are any firmware updates available for it (some update via your playing a special audio CD for example). Also, your TV may be be able to be updated by firmware (some TVs come with a USB port for that purpose) ... sounds crazy that TVs and receivers get firmware updates ... I even hate how games get patched. C'est la vie.

maybe your tv doesn't support 720p which is what alot of games are, check your settings in your ps3 and let it do the automatic configuration for resolution

90% its a faulty cable .borrow one from a friend and chick . another thing is that at that screen size hdmi does not offer better picture than component . dont know about audio though ,i dont have an audio system connected to my ps3/hdtv right now

I second this. Check your resolutions on the PS3.
