Default HDMI lead problem

I purchased a samsung blu ray player (BDP-1000). The player came with an hdmi lead that works when connected to my tv (a sharp aquos 42inch) however i have my tv on the wall and therefore i need a 3 metre length lead. I have now tried three manufacturers leads and none of them work.

I also have a virgin plus box. The 3 metre hdmi leads i have work in the V+ box but not in the blu ray player. The strange thing is the short lead that virgin provided me with also works in the blu ray player.

So both the virgin and sumsung short leads work in the blu ray player but not my 3 metre hdmi leads which do work in the v+ box.

Has anyone else had this problem and if so can they tell me which 3 metre leads i should buy so i dont have to keep moving my player to watch a film!!

Hope this makes sense.

What do you mean by "work"? Does that mean it fits or it delivers video?

The leads fit the player ok and in fact other than the length i cant see any differences between the leads.

By not working i mean i dont get any picture or sound but every now and then you get a bit of sound which quicky disappears but never a picture until you plug in the short length leads and then both the picture and the sound is perfect.

I'm very confused. Surely it cant just be the length of the leads that is causing the problems???

1) short HDMI + V box works.
2) short HDMI + Sammy works.
3) long HDMI + V box works.
4) long HDMI + Sammy doesn't work.

Sounds like your Sammy is not giving a strong enough HDMI signal. So you can either return the Sammy or use the component cable.

If you have another HDMI port on your TV, try that instead.

Also check the contacts on the HDMI ports and cables to see if the pins look bent.

thanks for the advice.

Your little summary is spot on. Before i send it back to be looked at it would be good if anyone who has successfully used longer leads could let me know if they had any initial problems with their leads and what leads they are using.

I originally contacted samsung who didnt want to know as the lead they provided works fine so im worried they wont want to look into the matter any further.

Also interested to see if there is a wider problem with this issue as it would be shame for everyone who has their tv on the wall to be excluded from having the player where they want it in their lounge.

Cheers
