Default HDMI problem

PS3 HDMI problem...

I just bought a $60 SONY brand HDMI cable to hook up a PS3 to an HDTV. The audio works, but the video doesn't for some reason. Has this happened to anyone else? Do you think it is the HDMI cable or the TV?

(The video works correctly if I use the Red, White, and Yellow cables instead, though)

Some earlier Sony TVs had the HDMI connection but it wasn't active. I'd ask a good Sony dealer about your model in particular. Make sure that you haven't set the PS3 for 1080p out if your Sony only does 1080i, that would bugger you up as well.

Make sure that you have the HDMI output activated out of the PS3

If you were using another video hookup to the PS3 before you installed the HDMI you need to reset the video. Do this by turning off the PS3, making sure the HDMI is hooked up to both the PS3 and the TV, and then hold down the power button until it beeps twice. The first beep is the standard system startup beep and the second signifies that the video settings have been reverted back to factory norms and it will then detect your HDMI cable.

Thanks, that did the trick! I just had to select HDMI in the PS3 Display options!
