It says that the leading game developers say that it's still impossible to predict what we shoud expect from the next generation of games consoles.

Boss of THQ, Brian Farrell says that it could be 7 or 8 years before new consoles start rolling out.

John Carmack says that the design of next gen consoles depends on the outcome of Nividia and Intel's current battle to push its graphics chips.

Finally, President of Epic, Mike Capps says that the Unreal Engine 4 should be ready when the next gen console wars come out which they say is anywhere between 2012 and 2018.

2013-2014 i think. i think the wait for new systems will be longer because of firmware updates. they are extending the life of the concoles.

I think you misinterpreted the statement. When he said 2012-2018 that would be generation start 2012 and generation end 2018. It looks uncannily similar to Sony's six year cycle...

I don't know... I think What he's saying is that It could anywhere in that time frame. My Guess is 2013. But if the world Ends in 2012, We won't need to Worry

i think the this gen console wars will start 2012, 2013 considering this gen currently only has one contender (PS3)

I dunno, I have a feeling that at some point after 2010, that cluster they made of PS3's is going to become self aware and start THE CONSOLE WARS. Our only hope is some dork who only plays the Wii, and had no 360 or PS3. Using his Wiimote, he will rally the human forces and finally defeat PS3, sometime in 2030. I know this, because back in the 1990's, the human forces sent a GBA back in time to prevent the making of the Sony CD drive for the SNES. They were succesful, but they only put off the domination of the PS3, not stopping it completely.

that makes more sense but the way its worded in the op's post makes it sound like in that timeframe, not the start and end

The PC is going to get a massive lead then if its going to take that long. Its a shame that graphics is the leading consideration considering what we have is almost life like as it is. 360 owners would have gone through at least 10-20 machines by then.

I think its fair though. Since its obvious the learning curve and financial requirements to meet the power of the current gen consoles far exceeds what we expected. Maybe in 2 years we will start to see a greater reflection of what this gen has to offer.

To be honest, I don't think devcos can fully realize this gen at the moment. Going up a generation at this stage would be like reaching for the next galaxy in a space shuttle.

Yes But I hope it will be much more powerful cause I wanna see Virtual Reality games with Helmet and gloves for a full 3-D immersion.

oh and I hope there will be more clarity as to the raw power of each machine cause this generation it seems that nobody really knows exactly how powerful the PS3 is compared to the 360 or computers
