Ok, I know most everyone here LOVES the PS3 for playing blu-rays. And from everything I've read, I really couldn't disagree. But I'm looking at buying a gaming system and was pretty much sold on the PS3 until my brother came over and hooked up his XBox360 and we played games until the wee hours of the morning on xbox live. It looked great on my 46in Sammy via HDMI!
I guess my question is for those of you have one or the other is, what would you get? Keeping in mind I already have a Blu-ray player and wouldn't be using a PS3 for playing movies AT ALL! The price of the Elite 360 is very inviting. (120GB HD, headset, xbox live for a year, HDMI cable) for $50 cheaper than the 80GB PS3. And from what I hear the Elite 360 will drop to $399 on Sept 7th. Seems like a steal to me. Lets keep this discussion friendly, please. I know a lot of you make out with your PS3 on a nightly basis. ![]() ![]() |

Only thing I can say is this.
I was a 360 owner, I had 26 games, 4 wireless controllers, the Guitar Hero controllers, the Rock Band set up, it was the greatest system on the planet and PS3 was cool but nothing that special. Then one day a guy from work brought his PS3 over. That weekend I took everything 360 down to EB Games and traded it all in towards a PS3 console, peripherals and games. I have never regretted it. Save yourself the time and money and do it right the first time. |

I have had them all. I had the 360. Sold it. Played only Halo and Orange Box. Got really boring after a while.
I have the PS3. Don't play games on it. Go figure. I have the Wii. I played this system the most and have 6 games for it. This is my gaming system - when I play. I have not played any console games in over 3 months. Go figure. I use my PS3 for movies and video streaming, that's all. |

Get the 360 then. Best online experience and gaming experience out there. Thats what I really liked about the 360. The interface and the online experience. Easy to use and simple. IF - the 360 ever gets blu, I might pick one up. Until then, I am not in a rush to get another. |

Developers, movie and television studios, everybody is coming around to the PS3's way of thinking. The PS Store now has all sorts of movies and shows available for download. Gaming wise, MGS4 is one of the first games to really harness what the PS3 can do. Just wait for games like Killzone 2, Resistance 2, Little Big Planet, so many more games I can't even think of them right now. The fact that the wireless is integrated into the PS3 (not on the 360, extra $100) helps to make the PS3's BD-player the best. The first player with either profile 1.1 (pip) and 2.0 (BD-Live), DTS HD MA in an update. Home is the kind of thing that will sell consoles and Beta tests are coming in the next few weeks if not days. Not even last, just last that I could think of but maybe most important...
XBox 360 failure rate- an electronics record 33% PS3- less than 2%. The PS3 will be around for at least 6-7 more years. The 360 is seriously on it's last legs. |

I own a PS3 and not a 360. I prefer my PS3 because I use it for a Bluray player and because I love SOCOM. It's for that reason I own one.
With that said, I am sorry but the nughugging on PS3 here is insane. Xbox Live has a better online setup, has a MUCH MUCH MUCH better game library, and simply put, is better for you if your only interest is getting lots of gaming time in. It's absolute ludacris to say that PS3 is better for gaming at this point. A year from now when we have a better online interface and a larger game library we can maybe compare when discussing just a gaming standpoint. But for now, it's just insane to say that PS3 > 360 for gaming. Let's be realisitic here when people ask these kinds of questions, people. He asked which unit is the best for him to buy, not which is best for him to buy in a year. And MGS4 may be a good game (albeit unbelievably overhyped) but games like Bioshock and Gears of War more then tip the scales. Again, I don't even own a 360 and I never have and never will. I am just unbiased. I have however played them many, many times, because most of my friends do own them. Last edited by ZackL; 08-11-2008 at 12:38 AM. |
