Finally got my new 60GB yesterday (had a 20) and The Descent arrived in the mail also.
From looking around, the issue with this title seems to be just that it wouldn't play in some players. I popped it in last night to check it out and the disc loaded and the movie seemed to play fine. The problem I noticed is that most of the extras including the docs. were squeezed vertically and shifted up using only the top half of the screen. The deleted scenes (I checked 2 or 3) were fine. ![]() |

If the extras are in 480, your Display has to upscale them correctly for now. So settings on the display might do with that.
Also check the DVD/BD and display settings, there's settings for 4:3 and 16:9 and letterbox and pan/scan that might affect DVD/480 output Latest upgrade is up to 1.54 btw |

Well i haven't seen the PS3 doing that in action so i don't know exactly. But if it's the equivalent of the same setting on DVD players that lets you choose bertween Pan/scan and letterboxed presentation of 16:9 coded DVDs, what this does is choose between showing the widescreen movie whole with the usual black bars, or actually pan/scan it (crop the sides) on the fly to fill the screen. I have very few DVDs that allow this , and they all are PAL dvds. One of them interestingly is an UltraPanavision movie (2.75 wide) and if you choose Pan/scan on my DVD player, you can watch it cropped to 2.06 wide

Hey, digging up an old thread here but I just went to play The Descent on my 250GB Slim and it would not play. Had a VERY hard time even reading the disc and when it did I clicked on it to play, I could hear it attempting to spin. It tried to spin about 3-4 times before stopping and then the screen told me "it could not play this disc". Brought it over to me friends house who has a 80GB Fat and a 250GB Slim and it would not play on either of those. Anyone else having this problem? Any solutions? HELP!!!!!

Also might want to try cleaning the disc to see if that works. |

Yeah it was working on my 80GB Fat back in Sept or Oct but then I got a 250GB but never attempted to watch it again until now. I will try to clean it again but I literally put the disc right back into the case and back onto the shelf after every movie I watch ( i have a MAJOR OCD issue

I just bought this and it won't play. Hell, my player (Which is a Sony BDPS3200) doesn't even seem to recognize it as a blu ray. Fails at loading it and then labels it as unknown. I've looked the disc over and there isn't a blemish on it anywhere. Makes no sense to me.

For those who have the "Beyond High Definition" foil bands US version, I just discovered something when trying again to play this on my Xbox One this evening. As before, all the video (including the menu screen) work fine. Then when you choose to play either the rated or unrated versions, all I got was audio and no video. I brought up the pop-up menu after starting (hearing audio only, no video) and selected "The Underground Experience". This switched on the film footage + production picture-in-picture video. I was getting all of the video in this mode. Then, I brought up the pop-up menu again and switched back to the unrated version from the Underground experience and I got full video! So far, it's playing fine, looks and sounds great!
As a follow-up I stopped the video, relaunched the Blu-ray player, and once in the menu screen, I selected the Unrated version. It played without having to do any of the pop-up menu shenanigans! I can't believe I've had this Blu-ray for so long and didn't try this before. Just thought others could give it a try and see if it works for them as well. I'll probably still get the Australian version at some point, but for now, I have a disc that will FINALLY play! I'd be curious if others try it and it works :-) |

It turns out that removing the disc and putting it back in the player requires one to go through the menu stuff I described in my post last October. Just thought I'd let folks know. Something about turning on "The Underground Experience" gooses the player into seeing and reading the video properly <<shrugs shoulders>>. Still curious if folks with other players can get it to work by doing this as well (see my last post).
