Default ONKYO DV-BD606 Blu-ray Player

If you go to the ONKYO site and download the 2008 full line catalogue, they have the new blu-ray player inside! The DV-BD606.(page 17) Looks very cool. Bitstreams all codecs to your onkyo recievers...........looks like it is made by onkyo also, and not like their HD-DVD player that was outsourced to toshiba.........

ONKYO DV-BD606 Blu-ray Player

It looks horrible in the flesh, it really does.

The player isn't made by Onkyo, it's a rebadged Panny BD50 according to the latest rumors and it shares the same chassis with Marantz (BD7003) and Denon (BD1800). Look @ the layout of those players and you recognize they're the same. It depends on the software which will stand out most, but it looks like it's going to be minor differences.

I saw it in Germany. You'd think it matches the receiver well except for the top part of the player (above the glossy strip) being far too low compared to the receiver. Even the HD DVD player looked better than this. Also, the front panel (which is brushed aluminium) really looks cheap compared to the Receiver.

I have the 805 too and I hoped it would be a perfect match, but it doesn't feel that way to me anymore. It looks like it's going to be another "safe-aproach" from Onkyo again

That certainly is a cool looking player. It's a very good player too!

Enjoy your Sony a bit longer till those players become cheaper. The Onkyo isn't worth paying $599 for and it's not even as feature packed as the Sony

Wow! what are they thinking at onkyo? I didn't realize it was that much. By the way, did you have to upgrade your DSP on your 805, for the DTSMA "bombs"?

That's what they're aiming at, prices aren't final. I had to upgrade it, yes, and it has messed up the audyssey calibration, but heck, I love my Onk and it sounds better without the calibration anyway. I have it calibrated by SPL now and it sounds the BOMB

I have not upgraded my 805 bt do I need to too? What is this "bomb" effect any way, is this something I would not have missed, that noticable? I had my Audyssey do the calibration and it sounds fantastic. Do you have any recomendations?

On another note that new BD player by Onkyo looks very ugly and I love Onkyo, but what the heck...

When bitstreaming a DTS HD-MA soundtrack to your Onkyo Receiver, it will result in getting "Bomb" effects. (Very loud popping on your speakers which can result in permanent speaker damage).

You need to update your receiver via a firmware update (CD).

Thumbs down

I love my Onkyo 875. The Blu-ray player meh. Not so nice. The remote looks like a radio shack remote. I was looking forward to this. I am going to stick to my PS3 for now.

That thing is pretty ugly. It reminds me of an old VCR.
